What is water hammer?
Water hammer (which often sounds as if the water pipes are being ‘hammered’) is caused
by the sudden deceleration of a column of moving water, which converts the kinetic energy
into a pressure that may reach extremely high values. The problem usually occurs when the
water fl ow is suddenly cut off by fast closing valves, which can be found in all kinds of waterconsuming
machines and appliances. The water tries to fi nd a balance in the main water
system. Dish washing machines, washing machines and taps that are suddenly closed may
cause water hammer. This is accompanied by the annoying sound of banging, rattling pipes,
but there is also a risk of leaking pipe joints or damage to appliances.
Installation instruction
• Install the water hammer arrestor as close as possible to the source of shock.
• Use the right tools to mount the arrestor to prevent damage.
• The factory pre-charged pressure is 2 bar. If the system pressure is higher than
2.5 bar, you can add pressure (air) (auto valve at the top) up to a maximum of 0.5 bar
below this system pressure.
• The maximum operating pressure is 10.5 bar.
• PLEASE NOTE: Never press the valve.
This will cause the arrestor to lose its damping capacity.
