Courses > Creative Industries > Digital Media & Games Design 42 Digital Media & GAmes Design This is one of the most progressive and industry-relevant areas of the College, and another creative area at City College recognised as Outstanding by Ofsted. Located in the heart of Brighton’s creative and digital scene and with access to fantastic industry standard computer facilities and great links with industry, we are THE place to come and study digital media and games design. Our exciting range of courses aim to develop your knowledge and understanding of the digital media and games industries and give you the skills that industry requires. In our industry standard PC and Mac computer suites, exciting assignments will encourage hands on experience of software to develop your practical skills in areas such as interactive design, web design, concept art, games design and 3D animation by exploring software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, 3D Studio Max and Final Cut Pro. You will also gain skills in using traditional drawing and visualisation techniques, including storyboarding, to generate and develop your ideas. Research and planning skills and skills in teamwork, time management and professional working practice underpin all of our courses. Our close proximity to a wide range of digital companies and digital professionals who are leaders in their field in areas such as games design, animation, mobile gaming, e learning and web development, means that we have fantastic links with local employers. You will gain experience of what it is like to work in the industry through live briefs and talks by visiting speakers from industry. Our experienced staff will work with you to help you focus on your goals and aspirations. During your course you will develop a strong portfolio of work and you will receive supportive advice from your tutor about progression opportunities. Continue studying The Extended Diploma is a qualification welcomed by universities. Digital Media and Games Design is a growing industry and degree level courses are offered around the country, including the Foundation Degree in Digital Media Design at City College. We also offer the Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification in Creative Digital Media for students who prefer to have direct entry into an employment situation whilst they study. The department has an outstanding track record of students moving onto higher levels of study, employment or onto Apprenticeship programmes. Job opportunities can be found in areas such as games design, games QA testing, animation, interactive design, digital graphics, web design, special effects production. Our students are well placed to take an entry level job in some of the best digital companies in the country.
