Courses > Creative Industries > Photography 48 Photography If you are interested in photography then City College is THE place to study. In a department rated Outstanding by Ofsted, our excellent two year photography course is designed to give you a broad introduction to the skills and techniques that you will need to work in this exciting and competitive industry. You will be taught by experienced tutors with a wealth of industry knowledge and have access to industry standard photographic studios and equipment. You will work on practical assignments producing photography work that will introduce you to a wide variety of techniques and processes. In our fully equipped darkroom, you will learn traditional darkroom techniques and in our photographic studios you will experiment with different cameras and studio lighting techniques. Using the latest industry-standard Apple iMac computers and software, you will learn how cutting-edge technology is used to enhance and manipulate photographic images. You will be encouraged to be experimental in your approach to your work and will learn how to research, plan, explore, develop, produce and evaluate your ideas and the ideas of others. You will underpin all of your work with research into the work of historical and contemporary photographers and photographic practices. The course has a strong industry focus and you will undertake live briefs and competitions to gain an understanding of what it is like to work in the industry. Experienced tutors with a wealth of industry knowledge will help you learn how to approach the creative process and will introduce you to professional working practice skills which are essential if you wish to succeed as a photographer. During the course you will build a strong and varied portfolio of work to support your progression onto university, or employment or into an Apprenticeship. Continue studying Some students decide to progress onto our Foundation Degree in Photography whilst others continue their studies at Higher Education establishments across the country. Many of the top art colleges in the country know us by reputation and welcome applications from City College students onto their degree level photography courses. Careers and jobs in the industry Alternatively, students progress directly into employment in a junior role, or take up an Apprenticeship programme to gain further qualifications whilst in the workplace. Whatever you decide, the Extended Diploma qualification and the skills and portfolio that you will gain through our photography courses will help you achieve your goals. equipment The College has three professional photography studios stocked with state-of-the-art equipment, this includes: • • • • • • • • Department rated OUTSTANDING Ofsted 2011 Canon 5D MkII and Hasselblad Digital cameras Extensive range of lenses Bowens lighting Large Black and White darkroom Colour Darkroom with Large format 4x5 enlargers 3 large format Epson printer capable of printing up to A1+ Flextight large format and Nikon medium format scanners Print finishing area with A0 Hotpress Students also have access to three designated Mac suites, containing over 50 iMacs running Lightroom 3 and Adobe Creative Suite CS5. www.ccb.ac.uk
