Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong><br />
Purpose<br />
☯ Identify, thank and honor the veterans of the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong>, their families,<br />
especially those that lost loved ones.<br />
☯ Recognize and remember the Prisoners of <strong>War</strong> (POW) and Missing<br />
in Action (MIA).– POWs: 7,140; Returned to Military Control:<br />
4,418; Died in Captivity: 2,701; Refused to return: 21)<br />
☯ Recognize the contributions of women and minorities to their Nation<br />
during the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong>.<br />
☯ Provide the American public with a clearer understanding and appreciation<br />
of the lessons, history, and legacy of the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> and the<br />
military’s contributions to the Nation in maintaining world peace and<br />
freedom through preparedness and engagement.<br />
☯ Remember United Nations forces engaged in preserving the peace,<br />
freedom and prosperity of the Republic of Korea and strengthen the<br />
bonds of friendship and relationships throughout the world focusing<br />
on the 22 countries that fought as Allies.<br />
Commemorative Partner Program<br />
☯ States, Military and civilian communities, and civic and patriotic<br />
organizations will be requested to become Commemorative Partners<br />
to assist a Grateful Nation in thanking and honoring veterans in their<br />
home towns (to include hospitals, retirement centers, nursing homes,<br />
etc.), and supporting schools in teaching the history of this era.<br />

☯ A certificate signed by the Secretary of Defense designating your state,<br />
county, town, organization or group as an official “<strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong><br />
Commemorative Partner.”<br />
☯ An official 50th Anniversary of the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> commemorative flag<br />
and leader lapel pin.<br />
☯ Informational and educational materials pertaining to the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong>,<br />
including maps, posters, fact sheets and a historical chronology.<br />
☯ Authorization to use the 50th Anniversary logo on your letterhead,<br />
magazines, newsletters, and for other purposes.<br />
☯ The “<strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> Dispatch,” a quarterly newsletter and a source of<br />
official information on <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> Commemorative events.<br />
