Charles N. Bikakis Chapter #211 of California<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Korean</strong>-American <strong>Association</strong> of Bakersfield honored members<br />

and families of KWVA chapter #211 of Bakersfield, California<br />

at a dinner on the 50th anniversary of the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> Armistice.<br />

Over three hundred people gathered at a local veterans building<br />

while the <strong>Korean</strong>s, many of whom traveled over one hundred miles<br />

to be at the dinner, provided the dinner and the entertainment.<br />

<strong>Korean</strong> hostesses greeted approximately 350 people at the dinner on<br />

Kyoo-Soon Shin, president of the <strong>Korean</strong>-American <strong>Association</strong> of<br />

Bakersfield presenting a special anniversary medallion to Tom Lewis. Shin<br />

presented medallions to thirty-eight members of the Bakersfield KWVA.<br />

from Los Angeles to<br />

Bakersfield to attend the<br />

anniversary dinner.<br />

A <strong>Korean</strong> martial arts<br />

demonstration featured<br />

snapping boards,<br />

whirling kicks, mock<br />

fighting and burst balloons<br />

showering glitter<br />

into the air. <strong>Korean</strong><br />

dancing and folk singing<br />

were also featured.<br />

Korea, Youn-bok Lee<br />

traveled from the Los<br />

Angeles area to be at the dinner.<br />

Kyoo-Soon Shin, president of the <strong>Korean</strong>-American <strong>Association</strong><br />

of Bakersfield, presented a personalized medallion to each KWVA<br />

member who served in Korea during the war.<br />

Mike Sabol, president of the KWVA in Bakersfield, presided<br />

over the events of the evening with the help of many members and<br />

other local volunteers.<br />

A <strong>Korean</strong> martial arts demonstration featured snapping boards, whirling<br />

kicks, mock fighting and other interesting activities.<br />

<strong>Korean</strong> women entertained the audience with musical rhythms and singing.<br />
