LADS AND LEADERETTES<br />
WINNERS’ CIRCLE SPEECH<br />
PURPOSE<br />
To provide a challenge <strong>to</strong> high achievers. Through participation in this<br />
event, students participate with the best of their age group.<br />
EVENT RULES AND GUIDELINES<br />
All Official <strong>Rules</strong> for <strong>Lads</strong> and Leaderettes Speech will apply in full <strong>to</strong><br />
this event.<br />
EVENT PARTICIPATION<br />
A. Grades 4-12 are involved in the Winners’ Circle Speech event.<br />
B. All first place speech winners from all previous <strong>Lads</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Leaders</strong>/<br />
Leaderettes Conventions will participate with other first place<br />
winners in the following divisions:<br />
Grades 4-6 Grades 7-9 Grades 10-12<br />
C. Participation in Winners’ Circle events requires that a student<br />
place first at a previous year’s <strong>Lads</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Leaders</strong>/Leaderettes Convention.<br />
For new convention sites, there will not be a Winners’<br />
Circle category the first year, but it will be in place the second<br />
year and following.<br />
D. Winners’ Circle participants will not participate in the regular<br />
speech event.<br />
E. If after 2-3 years in Winners’ Circle, a student is not benefiting<br />
from the experience and is getting discouraged, he or she may<br />
return <strong>to</strong> regular Speech.<br />
F. Lessons 4 & 5 in the Field <strong>Book</strong> of <strong>Leaders</strong>hip provide basic instruction<br />
on developing and giving a speech. The Field <strong>Book</strong> of<br />
<strong>Leaders</strong>hip can be ordered by calling the National Service Center<br />
or by shopping in our online s<strong>to</strong>re.<br />
AWARDS<br />
A. First, second and third place awards will be given in each <strong>Lads</strong><br />
and Leaderettes division.<br />
B. Winners’ Circle events may or may not run simultaneously with<br />
the regular Speech event. Check the convention schedule for<br />
specific information.<br />
C. For convention locations with multiple color divisions, there may<br />
be a need <strong>to</strong> combine participants in some or all grade divisions<br />
in order <strong>to</strong> have a sufficient number for participation. See the final<br />
convention schedule for room assignments.<br />
D. No males will be allowed in the rooms where Leaderettes are<br />
participating in Winners’ Circle Speech.<br />
