Bulletin Board (Competitive)<br />
PURPOSE<br />
To offer participants an opportunity <strong>to</strong> use their serving spirit, creativity,<br />
talents, and skills, <strong>to</strong> create bulletin boards <strong>to</strong> benefit their local congregation.<br />
EVENT PARTICIPATION<br />
A. Participants are divided in<strong>to</strong> the following divisions for Bulletin<br />
Board only:<br />
Grades 3-4 Grades 5-6 Grades 7-9<br />
Grades 10-12<br />
B. The bulletin board must be based on the current year’s convention<br />
theme.<br />
C. Individuals may only submit one entry per category in these two<br />
categories:<br />
1. Informative/Decorative - This category includes most of<br />
the boards in the hallways of the church. It may provide information<br />
about missions, new programs, sign-ups, etc. This<br />
bulletin board may tell you about an event that has happened,<br />
have pictures of that event and/or explain the annual<br />
events of the congregation. Decorative can be seasonal<br />
boards that help beautify the building, have pictures, a Bible<br />
verse, or just encourage the congregation in some way.<br />
2. Teaching - These are usually found in a classroom and in<br />
some way teach a particular Bible lesson or Bible concept.<br />
There could be one large scene or several smaller images.<br />
GENERAL RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION, CONTENT AND CREA-<br />
TIVITY<br />
A. Please email your high resolution (800 x 600 pixels or higher) .jpg<br />
format entries on or before the registration deadline date <strong>to</strong><br />
bulletinboard@lads-<strong>to</strong>-leaders.org. Submit one before and one<br />
after pho<strong>to</strong> for each bulletin board that you are entering in<strong>to</strong> competition.<br />
The bulletin board should be based on the current convention<br />
theme. Please submit only one entry per email. In the<br />
body of the email, include the following information:<br />

B. All pho<strong>to</strong> entries must be in color. Digital enhancement of pho<strong>to</strong>graphs<br />
is not allowed. Pho<strong>to</strong>s taken with a digital camera may be<br />
submitted, but cannot be fixed, corrected or enhanced in any way<br />
before submitting, so take several pho<strong>to</strong>s of before and after <strong>to</strong><br />
get the true colors and a clear picture. Please only send in one<br />
best before and one best after shot.<br />
C. Copyrighted figures (such as car<strong>to</strong>on figures) may not be used,<br />
unless they are purchased for use on bulletin boards or you have<br />

approval <strong>to</strong> use them.<br />
D. Titles and lettering are not required on bulletin boards, but the<br />
bulletin board must clearly convey a thought.<br />
E. Taking one item off a bulletin board and putting another up is not<br />
acceptable. Background paper/cloth may remain the same, but<br />
the border, and all items on the bulletin board must be new <strong>to</strong> the<br />
board.<br />
F. Ideas may come from a bulletin board book or another source but<br />
the overall composition and scheme must be your own.<br />
G. Since this bulletin board is <strong>to</strong> benefit the church or classroom, a<br />
men<strong>to</strong>r/teacher should guide the competi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong>ward appropriate<br />
choices and make sure the work meets a high standard. The<br />
men<strong>to</strong>r/teacher should give suggestions, but do none of the work<br />
with the exception of possibly taking the before and after pictures.<br />
H. Do not enter a bulletin board which has been previously entered<br />
in a <strong>Lads</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Leaders</strong>/Leaderettes Bulletin Board event. Only new<br />
entries are acceptable.<br />
I. No entries will be returned <strong>to</strong> the participant. They become the<br />
property of <strong>Lads</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Leaders</strong>/Leaderettes and may be used in<br />
training, promotional productions and/or the website for instructional<br />
purposes.<br />
JUDGING<br />
A. Based on the above rules, the bulletin board will be judged according<br />
<strong>to</strong> the official evaluation sheet.<br />
B. Three <strong>to</strong> five judges will work independently <strong>to</strong> examine and score<br />
each bulletin board entry.<br />
C. Entries in each of the two categories will be judged for construction,<br />
content and creativity.<br />
1. Construction (Type of Material):<br />
Effective Use of Materials/Media – The work should reflect<br />
that the crea<strong>to</strong>r gave thought and time <strong>to</strong> creating the piece.<br />
The overall quality of the piece should show workmanship,<br />
including neatness, good use of color, and composition.<br />
2. Content (Topic of Work):<br />
All bulletin boards should have a distinct purpose that would<br />
be beneficial <strong>to</strong> the congregation. Biblical truths will be considered.<br />
Adherence <strong>to</strong> annual convention theme is important.<br />
3. Creativity (Design):<br />
Originality – uniqueness (although you may use a book <strong>to</strong><br />
get ideas, your final product should show some original ideas)<br />
Design – layout, neatness, balance<br />
Overall Appeal – impression (this is very subjective)<br />
D. Penalties<br />
Because of the unique nature of Bulletin Boards, self-identification<br />
penalties do not apply.<br />
AWARDS<br />
First, second and third place awards will be given in each of the grade<br />
divisions for each category.
