From simpleton to sexy
siren, Vidya goes ooh la la!

The actress on playing Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture
She is at her boldest ever in The Dirty Picture,
but actress Vidya Balan says she never felt
uncomfortable while shooting for the film as
she was in the trusted hands of director Milan
Luthria. “I have never enjoyed being a woman
more than I did while shooting for The Dirty
Picture. Earlier on, I wasn't uncomfortable
doing bold scenes because I wasn’t in trusted
hands,” said Vidya. The actress, reprises the
role of the late southern siren Silk Smitha’s
rise and fall as a glamourous star. On asking
her about her rapport with Naseeruddin Shah
the actress who has teamed up with the veteran
actor earlier in Ishqiya says, “I have
worked with Naseer before but this time it
was easier. I was less nervous.” On asking her
about her experience on working with
Bollywood’s serial kisser Emraan, with whom
she has locked lips in the film also, she says, “I
was wondering how it would be with Emraan.
It was fun.”
So forget the bespectacled Radhika of the
Hum Paanch series, the demure Lalita of
Parineeta or even the rustic Krishna of Ishqiya.
An evolved Vidya Balan will be seen painting
The Dirty Picture red with her killer pout, sultry
dance, deep cleavage and her bold stance,
leaving you singing and sighing ‘Ooh la la!’
with Bappi Lahiri’s spicy rendition of ‘Tu Hai
Meri Fantasy...’.
Producer Ekta Kapoor says, “I would be surprised
if I don't get unbelievable critical
acclaim for Dirty Picture and a national award
for my actress, Vidya Balan.”
So now, the Munnis and the Sheilas of
Bollywood can take a backseat because this
sexy 33-year-old (even with her not so washboard
abs) might just become every man's
fantasy with her titillating moves, curvaceous
frame, playfulness, and sensuous ways with
Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and
Emraan Hashmi.
With its in-the-face dialogues, the trailer
itself might leave many gasping like when
Vidya tells Tusshar, “Mujhe jo chahiye uska
mazza raat ko hee aata hai.”
It's been six years since Vidya made her
Bollywood debut with Parineeta, but in the
short period, the actress showed her fearless
streak by doing roles that are as different as
chalk and cheese like Krishna in Ishqiya and Dr
Vidya in Paa.
Her choice of unconventional scripts with
experimental roles that challenge the actor in
her has continued to set an example of what it
takes to strike the right balance between commercial
and parallel cinema.
Her performance in Guru as a multiple sclerosis
patient may have been short, but it didn't
go unnoticed. Her films Salaam-e-Ishq, Heyy
Babyy and Kismet Konnection may not have
done much to boost her film career, but Vidya
remained dauntless.
She atunned the audience with her dancing
skills in Bhool Bhulaiya’s Ami je tomar. For a
brief period, her choice of dresses were the
talk of the town. She was much criticised but
Vidya kept to her work. She returned as the
single mother in Paa and her high-voltage performance
shut the wagging tongues.
Then came No One Killed Jessica that saw her
in a completely different avatar. Based on the
real-life Jessica Lall murder case, the film saw
her as a grieving sister who runs from pillar to
post to get justice for her dead sister.
After entertaining viewers with her plain
Jane look, Vidya has now picked up a contrasting
role in The Dirty Picture. She oozes oomph
like never before and one wonders if the
movie will be Vidya’s next stepping stone to
her ever-rising success story.
Directed by Milan Luthria, the film releases
on December 2, Silk Smitha's birth anniversary.

an adventurous type. We
recently heard that
Shraddha went off to
Maldives for some scuba
diving. The question
does Shraddha have

up adventure sports?

out of earth,
seen crustaceans, fish,
coral with colors and
forms like I could
never have imagined.
It was an overwhelming
sight,
very hard to swallow
and fully
understand.
