IT IS HEREBY NOTIFIED for general information that His Excellency the Acting President Timothy Hamel-Smith, acting in accordance
with the advice of the Prime Minister, in exercise of the power vested in him by section 40(2)(a) and section 44 of the Constitution of
the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, has appointed MR. ARNOLD RAM, to be temporarily a Member of the Senate, with effect from
3rd April, 2012 and continuing during the period that Senator Timothy Hamel-Smith has temporarily vacated his Office as Senator to
act as President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

IN ACCORDANCE with the provisions of section 16, Part III of the Defence Act, Chap. 14:01 of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago, it is
notified for general information that His Excellency the President, has been pleased to appoint BRIGADIER KENRICK MAHARAJ to the
Office of Chief of Defence Staff, Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, with effect from 29th March, 2012, in accordance with the

(Group J2).

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Minimum qualifications: LLB and a LEC—Legal Education Certificate.
Admission to practise Law in Trinidad and Tobago.
Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years as an Attorney-at-law.
Extensive knowledge in civil and criminal procedure; probate practice.
Extensive knowledge of Admiralty procedure.
Extensive knowledge of the Rules of the Supreme Court, the Matrimonial Causes Rules, the Court of Appeal Rules and the Privy
Council Rules.
Superior advocacy skills.
Superior analytical and reasoning skills.
Superior interpersonal skills.
Superior computer skills.
Superior managerial skills.
Superior communication skills—written and oral.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
General Judicial (30%)
1. Adjudicates on a variety of applications made by Parties to litigation before and after the trial and exercises the same
powers as a Judge in Chambers.
2. Adjudicates on Judgment Summonses under the Debtors Act.
3. Adjudicates in matters where a Judge has ordered that there be a taking of Accounts involving the taking of evidence and
the examination and cross-examination of witnesses.
4. Settles the Record of Appeal in appeals to the Court of Appeal Court and the Privy Council and ensures that the Records of
Appeal to the Privy Council are prepared in accordance with Privy Council Rules.
5. Grants extensions of time for settling Records of Appeal.
6. Inquires into and determines issues relating to claims under the Workmen’s Compensation Act referred to him/her by the
Commissioner of Workman’s Compensation who is the master.
