Hearing loss – ways in which it
affects our lives, work
and relationships
Hearing loss can be categorised into
different levels of severity. Different
degrees of hearing loss have different
impacts on people in terms of their
ability to communicate with family
members at home and friends in social
situations in daily life.
In a child, hearing loss results in speech,
language and learning problems. In
adults, hearing loss reduces job and
social options, and poor communication.
In the elderly, not hearing well has
been linked to depression, reduced
safety, reduced cognitive abilities, drop
in quality of life, social withdrawal and
reduced work options.
