ABSTRACT
Prof. Michael Belin, MD, USA
The OCULUS Pentacam uses a rotating Scheimpflug imaging system to
generate a true three-dimensional reconstruction of the anterior segment.
By directly measuring the elevation values of the anterior and posterior
corneal surface, it eliminates the limitations and potential errors associated
with curvature based systems. The Belin/Ambrosio Display utilizes both the
anterior and posterior elevation data and the pachymetric data to produce a
keratoconus/ectasia screening display that is solely based elevation derived
data. The display‘s specificity and sensitivity exceed 98% and avoids the false
positives and false negative associated with curvature based detection indices.
Brian Harrisberg, MD, Australia
The OCULUS Pentacam is a useful adjuvant in the diagnosis and management
of simple and complex cataracts and cataract surgery. Information generated
from corneal topography Scheimpflug imaging and anterior chamber volume
data enables the surgeon to plan appropriate surgery in complex cases and post
operatively view IOL positioning whether this is on the iris, or in the sulcus or
the capsular bag.
In summary, the Pentacam optimises outcomes and is an extremely useful
tool both in diagnosis and planning as well as post operative evaluations and
patient education.
Ana Alexandratos, Orthoptist, Australia
The OCULUS Pentacam has now been well established as a powerful refractive
assessment tool.
The Scheimpflug images of the anterior chamber provide very useful information
for an ophthalmic practice. Angle assessment, chamber volume and anterior
chamber depth are all possible with one simple test.
The imaging is fast, accurate and helps the patient visualize their eye and the
defects at hand. It is also an excellent screening tool for high hyperopes who
present for other reasons.
Examples of glaucoma cases will be presented along with what are normal
parameters.
