CHAPTER 15. HIGHWAY PLANNING<br />

730:15-1-9. Dedications and commendations<br />

(a) Highway, bridges, and other facilities which are part <strong>of</strong> the state highway<br />

system may be considered for dedication in honor <strong>of</strong> individuals deserving <strong>of</strong><br />

commendation for their active involvement in the project or for outstanding<br />

service to the nation, this state, or their community. Persons proposed to be so<br />

honored shall have been deceased not less than five years prior to consideration.<br />

Proposals for the dedication <strong>of</strong> state highway facilities should specifically state the<br />

accomplishments upon which the proposal is based.<br />

(b) Elected governmental bodies may, by formally adopted resolution, propose the<br />

naming <strong>of</strong> such facilities to the Commission.<br />

(c) No facility or group <strong>of</strong> related facilities shall be considered for naming in<br />

honor <strong>of</strong> more than one individual or entity, once named. Except in the most<br />

unusual circumstances, the Commission shall not consider changing the name <strong>of</strong><br />

the facility, nor shall the Commission consider changing or designating additional<br />

names to the current named facility or city street which is also part <strong>of</strong> the state<br />

highway system.<br />
