Our annual volunteer
with perfect weather and an unsurpassable view. This
enhanced our Hawaiian
theme and our
volunteers enjoyed
wonderful tropical food
provided by our
talented Nutrition
Services staff, as
beautiful live Hawaiian
music added to the festivities. Special guests included
Eric Lewis, CEO, Rich Newman, chief human resources
officer, Mike Hall, manager of security and Board
Commissioners Jim Cammack, Jim Leskinovitch and
Arlene Engel.
Each volunteer received a certificate of appreciation, a
beautiful key ring and pin. Special recognition went to
those volunteers with more than five years of service.
dedicates many hours to
meeting and planning in
order to ensure its efforts
are successful
Auxiliary Gift Shop
managers Louise Sampont and Anne Volke strive to
provide interesting and affordable gift items
appropriate for patients in the hospital, a co-worker’s
birthday or an item for you. The gift shop has become
an exclusive dealer in Port
Angeles for the ever-popular
Bagallini purses and recently
held a raffle drawing for a
Bagallini luggage tote, won by
OMC employee Debbie
Nelson. Debbie was leaving
for vacation the day she won, and was very happy and
excited.
This year, the Auxiliary began
holding monthly fundraisers
beginning with Charitable Art
held in September. This event
was highly successful and
enjoyed by those in Sequim and
Port Angeles. A note of thanks
goes to Jeff Becker of Charitable
Art for donating 50 percent of the proceeds to the
Auxiliary. The raffle winner of the beautiful fused glass
plate was Jim Yerkes of Sequim.
Our wonderful Reta Vigoren has volunteered for an
amazing 40 years!
Thank you volunteers for your continued support of
The Auxiliary welcomes
Julie as the new board
secretary. Julie is the
Disaster Preparedness
Coordinator for OMC and
manages to fit
volunteering in her busy
schedule. Julie believes in supporting the hospital in
many ways. She serves on the United Way committee
Auxiliary Book Cart
The Auxiliary book cart, both in Sequim and at the
hospital, continues to offer wonderful books to
patients, family members and staff for a nominal
donation. Books are always accepted as donations.
To date, the book cart has generated more than
$800. Funds are used to purchase items for the
hospitality cart and also donated to the Auxiliary
general fund. Proceeds go to purchase equipment
for the hospital, Lifeline scholarships and an
educational scholarship for students in the health
care field. A special thank you to Twice Loved
Why I Love Volunteering – By Preety Kaur
Hi, my name is Preety Kaur and my home country is
India. I am studying to be a nurse, so I decided to start
working as a volunteer in June. At that time, I was so
nervous and shy about working in a hospital. After
working for four months, I began to feel very confident
and was not afraid to speak up anymore. I learned a lot
from my co-workers, Tish and Monte. Not only did they
teach me hospital skills, but they also helped to improve
my English. I love working at Olympic Medical Center
and I love helping people. It made me realize I could
work here forever and I am thankful I had this
opportunity. I love being a volunteer and I now know I
will love being a nurse. Thank you friends at Olympic
Medical Center.
Legislative Advocacy
Olympic Medical Center is working to ensure adequate
funding for local health care. OMC ‘s active Legislative
Advocacy Committee meets monthly and engages with
legislators on important state and federal issues
affecting health care in our community. The committee
includes OMC Board Commissioners Jim Cammack, Jim
Leskinovitch and John Beitzel, CEO Eric Lewis and
Assistant Administrator Rhonda Curry.
What you can do: Take an active role in helping to
solve the health care crisis! Write to your legislators as
your letters count. Let your legislators know how you
feel about health care decisions. For more information
visit the hospital website at www.olympicmedical.org
and click on LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY or ask a
volunteer at the information desk in the main lobby of
OMC for a packet. We also have letters ready to go. All
you have to do is sign and mail them.
