Carroll University is a community for learning. As individuals, we come to the campus
from different homes and cultures. We bring with us our distinctive perspectives,
traditions and experiences. Here we become participants in a community dedicated to
the pursuit of academic excellence, personal fulfilment and spiritual meaning. Choosing
strive toward their realization. We ask that you enter into a voluntary compact with the
other members of the community which is Carroll University to live and work according
to these values.
The Carroll Academy, within the context of the total Carroll educational experience,
seeks to prepare college student participants to achieve their full potential. The
university’s educational philosophy is sustained by the four pillars of integrated
knowledge, lifelong skills, gateway experiences and enduring values.
Integrated Knowledge through breadth of learning. Students are encouraged to
recognize the interrelationships among ideas and to share their knowledge. By
observing, assisting and teaching in the Carroll Academy, they connect theory and
classroom learning with practical application.
Lifelong Skills help students prepare for life and work. Our mission is to help students
learn to think critically and creatively, adapt to changing technologies and needs, work
efficiently and effectively, collaborate with class participants, faculty, staff and parents;
and communicate clear, compelling ideas.
Enduring Values help students to consider always the impact of their actions. We
believe that effective leaders draw their inspiration from strong personal value systems.
Students learn from professional faculty and staff mentors and are provided with
opportunities for decision making.
Gateway Experiences occur upon leaving Carroll University. We place a special
emphasis on preparing incoming students through training and mentoring programs.
Gaining practical experience helps them make successful transitions into their first jobs,
or graduate and professional schools.
Students entering grades 9-12
July 29-Aug. 2, 10 a.m.-noon
In this college preparation course, we will explore
literary trends in written and oral contexts. Aimed
on essay construction and textual analysis. Openended
class discussions will focus on fictional and
BRAILLE
Students entering grades 4-12
Gr. 6-12 class: July 29-Aug. 2, 10 a.m.-noon
Braille is a mystery language, a system of letters
or numbers symbolized by raised dots (or bumps)
that enables people who are blind or visually
impaired to read and write. You might have
seen Braille on elevators, room signs, menus
at restaurants and at your local public library.
Have you ever wondered what the different dot
combinations mean? In this introductory class,
you will learn how to decipher each of the dot
combinations that are part of the Braille system
and make your own Braille using a Braille writer
and a slate and stylus. You will use the Braille
alphabet to read children’s books and other
materials, and write a short story that others can
decode. Learning Braille is fun, but it might be a
bumpy ride.
journey. The question is how to travel that path.
In this class, we will help you hone your craft and
dip into a variety of writing styles. We will also
talk about marketing and how to step into the life
of the professional writer.
Each student Participant, and the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of each student Participant, who decides to participate in activities associated
with the Carroll Academy program is doing so voluntary. It is the responsibility of each student Participant, and the parent(s)/legal
guardian(s) of the student Participant, to make sure the student Participant participates only in those activities for which s/he has the requisite
skills, qualifications, preparations and training. Carroll Academy does not warrant or guarantee in any respect the competency or mental
or physical condition of any student Participant in any Carroll Academy activity.
As a condition of participation in Carroll Academy activities, each student Participant, and the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of each student
Participant, is required to:
(1) carefully review and acknowledge receipt of this Notice and the corresponding Release and Waiver of Liability, and ask any
questions of Carroll Academy personnel if the student Participant, and/or the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of the student
Participant, are in any way uncertain about this document’s intent and/or meaning; and
(2) carefully review and abide by the principles of conduct set forth in the Carroll Academy Catalog (additional copies of which
can be obtained at the Carroll Academy Office).
RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY
I, _______________________________________ (name/please print) am the parent/legal guardian of _______________________________________
(name/please print), who is a student Participant in the Carroll Academy program. I hereby give approval for the student Participant’s enrollment
and participation in Carroll Academy and all of the activities involved therein. The student Participant’s participation in Carroll Academy
and all of its activities is by choice, and is completely voluntary.
Accordingly, in my capacity as parent/legal guardian for the student Participant, I agree on behalf of myself, the above-named student Participant,
my spouse, my heirs, assigns, related individuals and related entities, to hereby release, waive, absolve, discharge and agree to hold
harmless Carroll Academy, its trustees, directors, officers, employees, agents and insurers (collectively, the “Carroll Academy Released
Parties”) from and against any and all rights, claims, demands, causes of action, obligations, suits, liens, damages or liabilities of any kind
and character whatsoever, whether known or unknown, suspected or claimed, which we shall or may have in the future against the Carroll
Academy Released Parties arising out of, based on, related to or connected with the student Participant’s enrollment and participation in the
Carroll Academy program and activities. We also agree to indemnify and hold the Carroll Academy Released Parties harmless from the payment
of any and all judgments, settlements, costs, disbursements and attorney fees that are associated with the Carroll Academy Released
Parties having to defend or investigate any claim, action or proceeding of any type whatsoever arising out of the student Participant’s enrollment
or participation in the Carroll Academy program and activities including, but not limited to, claims for breach of contract, negligence
(whether caused by the sole negligence of Carroll Academy, the concurrent negligence of Carroll Academy with another, or the negligence
of any other person), strict liability or otherwise. This indemnification obligation and this Release and Waiver of Liability does not, however,
absolve the Carroll Academy Released Parties from any liability, damages, costs, disbursements and attorney fees incurred due to their intentional
or reckless conduct.
I fully understand that if any fact with respect to which this Release and Waiver of Liability is executed is found hereafter to be other than or
different from the fact in that connection now believed by me to be true, I expressly accept and assume the risk of such possible difference in
fact and agree that this Release and Waiver of Liability shall be and remain effective notwithstanding such difference in facts.

COVENANT NOT TO SUE OR OTHERWISE TAKE ACTION
The student Participant, and the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of the student Participant, covenant and agree that they will forever refrain from instituting,
prosecuting, maintaining, proceeding on, assisting with or advising to be commenced a suit which arises out of, or may be, in whole or
in part, based upon, related to or connected with the released matters herein or any part of them.
CONSENT TO MEDICAL CARE AND TREATMENT
In the event the student Participant is injured during a Carroll Academy activity, the student Participant and the parent(s)/legal guardian(s)
of the student Participant, consent to treatment of the student Participant’s injury by a professional employed by or otherwise under contract
with Carroll Academy, subject to the provisions of the above Release and Waiver of Liability. The student Participant and the parent(s)/legal
guardian(s) of the student Participant, authorize Carroll Academy, at its discretion, to arrange for the student Participant’s transport to a hospital
or other medical facility for further medical attention. The student Participant and the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of the student Participant,
understand and agree that Carroll Academy is not responsible for transporting the student Participant to a hospital or medical facility that participates
in any particular insurance/managed care plan.
PHOTOGRAPHIC CONSENT AND RELEASE
I hereby authorize Carroll University, Inc. (the “university”) and those acting pursuant to its authority to:
a. Record my likeness and voice on a photographic, video, audio, digital, electronic or any other medium.
b. Use my name in connection with these recordings.
c. Use, reproduce, exhibit or distribute in any medium (ex. print publications, CD, DVD, Internet) these recordings for any purpose that
the university, and those acting pursuant to its authority, deem appropriate, including promotional or advertising efforts.
I release the university and those acting pursuant to its authority from liability for any violation of any personal or proprietary right I may have in
connection with such use. I understand that all such recordings, in whatever medium, shall remain the property of the university. I have read and
fully understand the terms of this release.
REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES
I represent and warrant that I have the full power, capacity and authority to execute this document as the parent or legal guardian of the student
Participant. I further represent and warrant that I understand the terms and provisions of this document and its nature and effect.
APPLICABLE LAW
This document is made, executed and entered into and shall be governed by the laws of the state of Wisconsin. I expressly consent to the venue
and jurisdiction of the Wisconsin courts with respect to any dispute arising out of the student Participant’s enrollment and participation in the
above-referenced Carroll Academy program and associated activities.
I HAVE READ THE FOREGOING PROVISIONS OF THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THEM.
