BRIEF 

The South Bank in London is home to many creative architects 

practises. RJA designed a large circular pendant over a 

reception desk and needed a lighting company to turn their 

rendered image into a floating circle of light. 

DESIGN 

Optelma’s bespoke manufacturing facilities in Somerset 

realised that the best way to build a structurally solid solution 

was to use the new Quad 62 aluminium extrusion and curve 

it using a special technique to form the 3.6m diameter light. 

The segments were then joined and clad with a material to 

match the reception desk. The suspension wires were used to 

introduce an invisible power supply into the pendant

M&M WORLD, LONDON 

BRIEF 

M & M’s designers based in New York wanted an eye catching 

colourful window display for what would become the largest 

sweet shop in the world. Schematic drawings indicated a 

series of suspended coloured planks. 

DESIGN 

After proving that a static colour 

lightbox display was not dynamic 

enough for Leicester Square in 

London, Optelma designed, 

manufactured and installed 248 

polycarbonate seamlessly illuminated 

boxes up to 3m in length with colour 

change LED cores and DMX control 

to give a dazzling attraction viewable 

from inside and out.

of the river Doubs in Besancon by architects Kengo Kuma and 

Associates. It needed clean linear lines of light to provide a

Manufacture and install a fifteen 

metre diameter recessed light to provide 

enough glare-free general illumination in 

this large and imposing entrance to one 

of the world’s leading accounting firms. 

DESIGN 

Working with Speirs and Major, Optelma adapted its Keno 

recessed lighting system to use CDM spotlights & T5 lamps in 

curved housings with a special low brightness louvre to match. 

The Optelma Technical Team also installed this bespoke lighting 

to ensure a quick and trouble-free solution.

B.E. Ingélux in Lyon have demanding specifications for the Passenger 

Flow areas at Orly Airport in Paris with safety and quick installation 

their top priorities. In this instance they required a fluorescent profile 

that gave a totally shadow less line of continuous glare free light plus 

a very efficient lamp change facility together with 

a unique emergency lighting specification for these high traffic areas 

that are all connected by a single integrated wiring solution.

DESIGN 

To satisfy this brief in all its complexity a new extrusion was specially tooled to 

make a deeper version of the Quad 60 Profile for Trimless recessed application 

with cut out plates for quick lamp change and a Clip System for the emergency 

lighting solution. Plug-in modules in lengths up to 6 meters were delivered to site 

incorporating a ‘plug and play‘ pre-tested DALI connection system for quick night 

time installation.

BRIEF 

Center Bar serves thousands of customers every day at Zurich 

Airport. Detail Design in Zurich have demanding a special floor 

light, anchored to the ground, with clean lines that would work 

exceptionally well with the furniture. 

DESIGN 

A striking chrome steel base with polished finish and opal 

acrylic were mounted on a special base plate fixed to the floor 

with hidden wiring. This plate needed to be slightly recessed 

to complying with the strict safety requirements in force for 

public areas of the airport

BRIEF 

The concept designers IPSO CONCEPTS ECLAIRAGE needed to emphasis the uniqueness of this store by having a 

highly efficient and low maintenance downlight to work with the Astoroid theme. It would need to satisfy electrical 

standards in a number of countries. 

DESIGN 

Optelma’s specialist product designers developed an unique ‘Asteroid‘ to light the stores 

using discharge lamps. Versions were manufactured by Optelma that complied with both 

European Standards and also UL Approval for stores in the United States.
