Orlando Health’s mission:
to improve the health
and quality of life of
the individuals and
communities we serve.
T.J. Martell Foundation Honors Arnold
Palmer with Lifetime Philanthropic Award
Why is it important to join the 1918 Society?
Healthcare is changing and Orlando Health is at the forefront. As we approach our centennial, broad and expansive
plans for new facilities are underway to accommodate innovative patient care practices, new technologies and multidisciplinary,
collaborative teams. Our vision for the future is exciting but in the midst of an economic downturn, with
even greater budget cuts and patient need, we simply cannot achieve this vision without the generous support of donors.
Philanthropy empowers healthcare to be truly exceptional.
With the generous philanthropic support of caring people, Orlando Health is providing the highest level of care in
many specialties including trauma, oncology, cardiology and pediatrics.
And we’re not stopping there. Will you join us?
In the city where people dream of seeing their names in
lights, Arnold Palmer’s name shone brightly as he was
recognized for his more than two decades of work in
building Arnold Palmer Medical Center. The nationallyknown
T.J. Martell Foundation awarded Mr. Palmer with
the Lifetime Philanthropic Award at their annual gala
in November, in front of a room full of celebrities and
dignitaries. This award comes just months after Arnold
Palmer Hospital received its first grant from the T.J.
Martell Foundation to support pediatric cancer research
happening in Orlando.
treatment for cancer at Arnold
Palmer Hospital
Country music star, Darius
Rucker, presented the award
to Mr. Palmer, sharing his own
personal story of how Arnold
Palmer Hospital recently
helped his young niece, Karli,
battle a form of cancer.
During the event, held at
the Marriott Marquis Times
Square in New York, several
awards were bestowed on
entertainment and business
leaders while raising a
record $1.3 million for cancer research. Among the other
celebrities in attendance were daytime television icon,
Susan Lucci, Grammy-winning country group Rascal Flatts,
Donald Trump, and Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas.
Rucker performed two songs for the crowd, including a
Frank Sinatra song dedicated to Mr. Palmer.
The T.J. Martell Foundation has been a driving force
nationally for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research. The
foundation has given over $250 million for these causes,
primarily through their partner hospitals and research
facilities. In 2011, Arnold Palmer Medical Center joined
the elite list of only eleven partner hospitals in the
country, which includes The Mayo Clinic, Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Massachusetts General
Hospital Cancer Center and The University of Texas
MD Anderson Cancer Center.
As a designated research facility Arnold Palmer Medical
Center was awarded $50,000 from the T.J. Martell
Foundation in April 2011. The grant will help the
hospital continue performing research and developing
innovative cancer treatments and protocols. We are proud
to be recognized by the T.J. Martell Foundation for the
groundbreaking work occurring each day at Arnold Palmer
Medical Center.
