EXISTING BUSINESSES DRIVE
RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN
A business recruitment campaign, geared to fill
the remaining vacancies Downtown, will be the
subject of summer activity for Downtown
Development Officer David Tuley. “The strategy
is to build upon successful business clusters
that exist in the downtown: home furnishings, a
diversity in dining, and fine apparel,” says Tuley.
According to Tuley, the market demand for home
furnishings Downtown is growing. “We have an
excellent base to build on, with Wilson’s Furniture,
Ward’s, The Gift House, Brush Strokes, Tribal
Voices, The Leather Store, and Earth Tones, to
name a few.”
The campaign will seek to entice selected
businesses from across the Region and GTA to
open second locations in Oshawa. “Confidence
remains up in the Downtown,” he said, “we need
to take advantage of this momentum. Our
commercial properties are extremely affordable
in any comparison.”
“We currently have over 40,000 square feet in
home furnishings Downtown - whereas the mall
has little more than 13,000 square feet. People
need to be re-educated on what and how much the
Downtown has to offer,” concluded Tuley.
