(60) Emergent Reason:<br />
(A) Format: Numeric, length 1<br />
(B) Valid Values: 1 = Shock Circ Support; 2 = Shock No Circ Support; 3 =<br />
Pulmonary Edema; 4 = AEMI; 5 = Ongoing Ischemia; 6 = Valve<br />
Dysfunction; 7 = Aortic Dissection; 8 = Angiographic Accident; 9 =<br />
Cardiac Trauma<br />
(C) Category: Operative<br />
(D) Definition/Description: Patients requiring emergency operations will<br />
have ongoing, refractory (difficult, complicated, and/or<br />
unmanageable), unrelenting cardiac compromise, with or without<br />
hemodynamic instability, and not responsive to any form of therapy<br />
except cardiac surgery. An emergency operation is one in which there<br />
should be no delay in providing operative intervention. Indicate which<br />
one of the following applies as the reason why the patient had<br />
Emergent Status? (Select one valid value):<br />
(i) Shock with circulatory support<br />
(ii) Shock without circulatory support<br />
(iii) Pulmonary edema requiring intubation<br />
(iv) Acute Evolving Myocardial Infarction (AEMI) within 24 hours before<br />
surgery<br />
(v) Ongoing ischemia including rest angina despite maximal medical<br />
therapy (medical and/or intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP))<br />
(vi) Valve Dysfunction - Acute Native or Prosthetic<br />
(vii)Aortic Dissection<br />
(viii)Angiographic Accident<br />
(ix) Cardiac Trauma<br />
