(D) Definition/Description: Indicate whether the patient returned to the<br />
operating room for coronary graft occlusion due to acute closure,<br />
thrombosis, technical or embolic origin.<br />
(74) Deep Sternal Wound Infection<br />
(A) Format: Numeric, length 1<br />
(B) Valid Values: 1 = Yes; 2 = No<br />
(C) Category: Complications<br />
(D) Definition/Description: Indicate whether the patient, within 30 days<br />
postoperatively, had a deep sternal infection involving muscle, bone,<br />
and/or mediastinum REQUIRING OPERATIVE INTERVENTION. Must<br />
have ALL of the following conditions:<br />
(i ) Wound was opened with excision of tissue (I&D) or re-exploration<br />
of mediastinum<br />
(ii) Positive culture<br />
(iii) Treatment with antibiotics<br />
(75) Postoperative Stroke:<br />
(A) Format: Numeric, length 1<br />
(B) Valid Values: 1 = Yes; 2 = No<br />
(C) Category: Complications<br />
(D) Definition/Description: Indicate whether the patient had a postoperative<br />
stroke (i.e., any confirmed neurological deficit of abrupt onset caused<br />
by a disturbance in cerebral blood supply) that did not resolve within 24<br />
hours.<br />
