Smarter Choices make a Healthier You!
Did you know that you can lose a pound a
week by consuming 500 fewer calories each
day? You could also burn an extra 500 calories
daily or do a combination of both to add
up to 500! A 2.07 ounce Snickers candy bar
has 280 calories, 14 grams of total fat, 5
grams of saturated fat, and 30 grams of sugar
and 140 milligrams of sodium. If you just have
to have something sweet, eat a “fun size” bar
instead of the regular size!
By keeping a food journal of everything you
eat and drink you can double your weight
loss! When you write it down, you become
more conscious of your intake and motivated
to reduce your intake.
Eliminate “seconds” and keep portion size in
mind when serving food to yourself or others.
It is helpful to have healthy snacks on hand
but those “100 calorie” individual bags can be
expensive. Using your own snack size bags,
read the nutrition information to determine
what a serving size actually is and then distribute
the snacks into your own bags accordingly.
It’s very easy to sit down with a bag of
potato chips while watching television and
realize the whole bag is gone at the end of
your program!
Alcoholic drinks, fruit juices and sports beverages
are high in calories. Instead enjoy a
glass of water. Drinking water also helps you
feel fuller thereby reducing your hunger and
it helps with elimination.
Instead of skipping meals, eat smaller, more
nutritious meals and snacks throughout the
day. This will increase energy, boost your metabolism
and satisfy your hunger.
Exercise is an important
part of weight loss, don’t
overlook its benefits. Not
only does it burn calories,
it helps tones your
muscles, strengthens
your heart and improves
your mood state, too.
Find an activity that you
enjoy and vary your routine
so you don’t get bored. Instead of just
walking, listen to some upbeat, jazzy tunes
and walk briskly to the fast beat of the music.
Walk up and down stairs instead of taking the
elevator or escalator. Park your car farther
away and walk whenever possible.
Be sure to get enough rest. Sleep helps you
stay alert so you are less likely to mindlessly
binge and it gives you the energy you need to
be active.
