Teaching & Instructional Experience
University of Alabama, English Tutor for Athletics Department
As an English tutor for Athletics, I was responsible for tutoring student-athletes in composition
and literature. I also worked as a personal monitor, a job that included helping student-athletes
plan and organize their schedules.
Samford University, Adjunct Communication Arts Instructor,
As a Communication Arts instructor, I was responsible for teaching writing and public speaking.
I also incorporated eLearning into my courses.
UAB, Adjunct English Instructor
As an English instructor, I was responsible for teaching English Composition 101/102 and
American Literature from 1865-present, a 200-level course.
UAB, Graduate Assistant
As a GA, I was responsible for teaching one composition class and tutoring in the English
Resource Center, or teaching one class and serving as a research assistant when tutors were not
needed.
Jefferson State Community College (Shelby Campus), English Teacher
As an English teacher, I was responsible for creating and effectively implementing the lesson
plans for my English 093 classes.

As an English tutor, I was responsible for tutoring students in literature and composition. My
duties included helping students develop their own ideas, in addition to giving them advice on
how to adequately communicate those ideas in an academic paper. Although my area is English,
I would often help students with papers for classes in other disciplines.
Research & Editing Experience
University of Alabama, Research Assistant for Dr. Claire Major
As a research assistant for Dr. Major, I was responsible for researching online learning. I often
read and categorized research on student perceptions and satisfaction in online courses; some of
the information was for Dr. Major’s book. On occasion, I helped with editing responsibilities for
the Journal of General Education.
University of Alabama, Editor for Instructional Technology
As the part-time editor for Instructional Technology in the College of Continuing Studies, I was
responsible for editing newly-developed online courses for grammar errors and inconsistencies.
WMU, Writer/Copy Editor
As the writer/copy editor for the Executive Office Team, I was responsible for writing news
releases; compiling, designing, and distributing the corporate newsletter; copy editing
publications for my team and others in the Corporate Communications and Financial Center;
designing and compiling the retiree newsletter; compiling the quarterly update (desktop
publishing); and serving as the liaison between the organization and its retirees. I also wrote
descriptions for the 2009 WorldCrafts catalog, which features work by fair trade artisans.
