Express Website
Since joining Owens Community
College in late 2011, Athletic Director
Rudy Yovich has made a point not just to
maintain the Owens Express tradition
of athletic excellence, but to build on it.
This pursuit of excellence led Yovich
and his staff to design and develop a
new Express athletics website - www.
owensexpress.com. The website
features game scores, video highlights,
up-to-date season statistics, an athletic
apparel store, links to Owens Express
social media sites and more. The
website is a collaborative effort between
Owens Community College and Presto
Sports of Rockville, Md.
“Owens has a great story to tell and this
is just another way to communicate that
message. The new website featuring
real-time information has provided
much more exposure for the Owens
Express, with more than one million hits
in October 2012 alone,” said Yovich.
Among the many achievements of the
Owens Express in 2012, the Women’s
Volleyball team’s exceptional fall
season must be considered a highlight.
The team finished with a sparkling
record of 37-11 overall, capturing its
12th Ohio Community College Athletic
Conference (OCCAC) regular season
championship in the last 13 years.
Coach Sonny Lewis’ squad finished 12-0
in OCCAC regular season standings
and was ranked No. 17 in the NJCAA
Division II national volleyball regular
season poll.
Moving on to the post-season, Owens
Community College hosted the NJCAA Division
II National Championship tournament, during
which the Express finished fourth among sixteen
teams, their best Division II result ever. The
team’s extraordinary year was highlighted at
the December 2012 Owens Board of Trustees
meeting, at which the team was recognized for
exhibiting leadership, teamwork and excellence
during their outstanding 2012 season.
“Our student-athletes would not be able to
realize their full potential, both in competition
and in the classroom, if not for the support of
our Board of Trustees and our outstanding
administration. For that, we are truly grateful,”
said Yovich.
