<strong>Medical</strong> Assistants are multiskilled allied health professionals specifically trained to work in ambulatory<br />
settings, such as physicians’ offices, clinics, and group practices, performing administrative and clinical<br />
procedures. Employment of <strong>Medical</strong> Assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average through<br />
2018, due to the many changes in the health care industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics cites medical<br />
assisting as one of the top 10 fasting growing occupations in the United States.<br />
The courses offered at <strong>Owens</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> will assist you as you travel the roads of professionalism,<br />
confidentiality, initiative, and responsibility. As you listen, observe, organize, prioritize, demonstrate, and<br />
transmit information, you will be ready to join the <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Assisting</strong> profession.<br />
Students gain knowledge of <strong>Medical</strong> Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Computer<br />
Applications, <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Assisting</strong> Clinical Applications as well as <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Assisting</strong> Administrative Applications.<br />
Directed practice experience, sometimes known as an externship, allows the student to apply classroom<br />
education to the “real world”.<br />
The medical profession offers exciting and new opportunities. As a graduate, you will be able to select from<br />
hundreds of job opportunities all over the country and know that the education you received from <strong>Owens</strong><br />

$22,650 - $29,846 for entry level medical assistant*<br />
$29,972-35,440 for experienced medical assistants*<br />
General Educations Requirements<br />
Many classes, except <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Assisting</strong> <strong>Program</strong> (MAP)<br />
classes, can be taken online.<br />
General Admission Requirements<br />
• Completed Admission Form to <strong>Owens</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
• High School transcript or GED on file in Records<br />
• <strong>College</strong> transcripts (if applicable) on file in Records<br />
• ACT and/or SAT scores on file in Records<br />
• Evidence of high school algebra and chemistry or Anatomy<br />
& Physiology with a grade of “C” or better<br />
