Owens Community College is a two-year public
college located in Toledo, Ohio, the seventh largest
state in the United States. Toledo is a manageable,
mid-sized city with a population of 310,000.
Owens offers excellent academic programs – with
more than 130 programs to choose from. The most
popular programs for international students are
Associate of Arts transfer, Associate of Science
transfer, Business, Information Technology, and
Engineering.

Transfer
English as a Second Language
Owens Community College offers three levels of ESL - beginning,
intermediate and advanced – in the following areas: reading, oral
communications, writing and grammar. These courses prepare
international students for academic work at the college or
university level. Owens also provides a bridge course which offers
in-depth instruction to prepare students for academic success.
Degrees
Students can earn degrees and certificates alone or these can be
added to a university transfer program. Program lengths vary from
several months to two years.

Advising
Our International Student Advisor provides personal
assistance with international student advising,
registration and cultural adjustment. A professional
team of advisors on campus help international
students with academic and transfer advising.
Orientation
A day-long orientation session provides tips
on adjusting to the American culture, including
the American educational system, establishing
interpersonal and social support networks,
understanding immigration regulations, enhancing
English language proficiency, and managing finances.
It’s also a great time to meet other international
students!
Housing
Owens is a non-residential campus, but there are
several apartment options near to the campus that
provide a clean and safe community for students. Our
housing coordinator can help you with questions and
information about housing.
Activities
The Office of Student Activities offers a variety of
opportunities for students to participate in to make
the most of their college experience. From clubs and
organizations to social events, there are plenty of
ways to get involved. The Global Connections Club
hosts various activities and events for international
students. Throughout the year, the GCC hosts movie
nights, bowling parties and trip to local points of
interest, such as the Toledo Art Museum and Cedar
Point, a national amusement park.
