MATERIALS<br />

A Yarn Needle.<br />

TENSION/GAUGE<br />

1 flower motif block measures 20 cms/8<br />

ins x 20 cms/8 ins, using 5.50mm (US<br />

I/9), (UK 5) <strong>Crochet</strong> Hook.<br />

Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential<br />

for a successful item.<br />

Australian terminology.<br />

St/s - stitch/es, RS - right side, WS - wrong<br />

side, ch - chain, dc - double crochet (US single<br />

crochet), tr - treble (US - double crochet), sl<br />

st - slip stitch, rep - repeat, beg - begin/<br />

ning, sp/s - space/s, htr - half treble (US half<br />

double crochet), hdtr - half double treble (US<br />

half treble).<br />

HELPFUL NOTE<br />

Motifs are worked in the round. When working<br />

4th <strong>and</strong> 6th rounds, work ch loops behind<br />

petals of previous rounds.<br />

When working 1dc around dc sts of previous<br />

rounds, insert hook from back of motif,<br />

through front over st indicated <strong>and</strong> draw up a<br />

loop before finishing stitch.<br />

CREATE<br />

Flower Motif Block (make 9)<br />

Using 5.50mm (US I/9), (UK 5) Hook , make<br />

5ch. Join with a sl st to form a ring.<br />

1st round - 5ch (counts as 1tr <strong>and</strong> 2ch), *<br />

1tr into ring, 2ch, rep from * 7 times, join with<br />

a sl st to 3rd ch of beg 5ch = 8 2ch sps.<br />

2nd round - Sl st to next 2ch sp, 1ch, 1dc<br />

in same sp, 3ch, * 1dc in next 2ch sp, 3ch,<br />

rep from * 7 times, join with a sl st to dc<br />

at beg of round = 8 3ch loops.<br />

3rd round (first petal round) - Sl st to<br />

first 3ch sp, (1dc, 3htr, 1dc, sl st) in same<br />

3ch sp, * (sl st, 1dc, 3htr, 1dc, sl st) in<br />

next 3ch sp, rep from * until all 3ch sp<br />

have been worked, join with a sl st to beg<br />

of first petal.<br />

4th round - 1ch, 1dc around first dc st of<br />

2nd round, 5ch, * 1dc around next dc st of<br />

2nd round, 5ch, rep from * until all dc sts<br />

from 2nd round have been worked, join<br />

with a sl st to beg of first petal.<br />

8th round - Sl st to first htr of next petal,<br />

1ch, 1dc in same place, 6ch, miss next 5<br />

sts, 1dc in next htr, * 6ch, 1dc in first htr<br />

of next petal, 6ch, miss next 5 sts, 1dc in<br />

next htr, rep from * to end, join with a sl<br />

st to dc at beg of round = 12 6ch sps.<br />

9th round - Sl st to next 6ch sp, 3ch<br />

(counts as 1tr), (3tr, 4ch, 4tr) into same<br />

sp (corner), * 4ch, 1dc in next 6ch sp,<br />

(6ch, 1dc in next 6ch sp) twice, 4ch, (4tr,<br />

FINISHING<br />

Sew squares together in a 3 x 3 grid.<br />

Alternatively, crochet squares together using<br />

dc sts through back loops of final round of each<br />

motif, leaving a raised ridge on RS of blanket.<br />

Edging - Using 5.50mm (US I/9), (UK 5)<br />

Hook, join yarn to any corner sp, 1ch, 1dc in<br />

same sp.<br />

Work 1dc in each st <strong>and</strong> sp along side edges,<br />

working (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) in corner sp <strong>and</strong> noting<br />

to work (3dc, 2ch 2dc) in first corner sp. Join<br />

with a sl st to dc at beg of round.<br />

Next round - 1ch, 1dc in same place, 5ch, *<br />

miss 3 sts, 1dc in next st, 5ch, rep from * to<br />

corner, 7ch, miss 2ch corner sp, 1dc in next<br />

st, rep from * around, join with a sl st to dc at<br />

beg of round.<br />

Next round - As 5th round of motif.<br />

Fasten off <strong>and</strong> darn in ends.<br />
