A Yarn Needle.

1 flower motif block measures 20 cms/8
ins x 20 cms/8 ins, using 5.50mm (US
I/9), (UK 5) Crochet Hook.
Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential
for a successful item.

St/s - stitch/es, RS - right side, WS - wrong
side, ch - chain, dc - double crochet (US single
crochet), tr - treble (US - double crochet), sl
st - slip stitch, rep - repeat, beg - begin/
ning, sp/s - space/s, htr - half treble (US half
double crochet), hdtr - half double treble (US
half treble).
HELPFUL NOTE
Motifs are worked in the round. When working
4th and 6th rounds, work ch loops behind
petals of previous rounds.
When working 1dc around dc sts of previous
rounds, insert hook from back of motif,
through front over st indicated and draw up a
loop before finishing stitch.
CREATE
Flower Motif Block (make 9)
Using 5.50mm (US I/9), (UK 5) Hook , make
5ch. Join with a sl st to form a ring.
1st round - 5ch (counts as 1tr and 2ch), *
1tr into ring, 2ch, rep from * 7 times, join with
a sl st to 3rd ch of beg 5ch = 8 2ch sps.
2nd round - Sl st to next 2ch sp, 1ch, 1dc
in same sp, 3ch, * 1dc in next 2ch sp, 3ch,
rep from * 7 times, join with a sl st to dc
at beg of round = 8 3ch loops.
3rd round (first petal round) - Sl st to
first 3ch sp, (1dc, 3htr, 1dc, sl st) in same
3ch sp, * (sl st, 1dc, 3htr, 1dc, sl st) in
next 3ch sp, rep from * until all 3ch sp
have been worked, join with a sl st to beg
of first petal.
4th round - 1ch, 1dc around first dc st of
2nd round, 5ch, * 1dc around next dc st of
2nd round, 5ch, rep from * until all dc sts
from 2nd round have been worked, join
with a sl st to beg of round = 8 5ch sps.
5th round (second petal round) - * (sl st

8th round - Sl st to first htr of next petal,

next htr, rep from * to end, join with a sl
st to dc at beg of round = 12 6ch sps.
9th round - Sl st to next 6ch sp, 3ch
(counts as 1tr), (3tr, 4ch, 4tr) into same
sp (corner), * 4ch, 1dc in next 6ch sp,
(6ch, 1dc in next 6ch sp) twice, 4ch, (4tr,
4ch, 4tr) in next 6ch sp (corner), rep from
* twice more, 4ch, 1dc in next 6ch sp,

with a sl st to top of beg 3ch.
10th round - 3ch (counts as 1 tr), 1tr

next 4ch sp, (1ch, 3tr in next 6ch sp) twice,
1ch, 2tr in next 4ch sp, 1ch, 1tr in each of next
4 sts, rep from * twice, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) in next
corner sp, 1tr in each of next 4 sts, 1ch, 2tr in
next 4ch sp, (1ch, 3tr in next 6ch sp) twice,
1ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1ch, join with a sl st to
top of beg 3ch.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew squares together in a 3 x 3 grid.
Alternatively, crochet squares together using
dc sts through back loops of final round of each
motif, leaving a raised ridge on RS of blanket.
Edging - Using 5.50mm (US I/9), (UK 5)
Hook, join yarn to any corner sp, 1ch, 1dc in
same sp.
Work 1dc in each st and sp along side edges,
working (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) in corner sp and noting
to work (3dc, 2ch 2dc) in first corner sp. Join
with a sl st to dc at beg of round.
Next round - 1ch, 1dc in same place, 5ch, *
miss 3 sts, 1dc in next st, 5ch, rep from * to
corner, 7ch, miss 2ch corner sp, 1dc in next
st, rep from * around, join with a sl st to dc at
beg of round.
Next round - As 5th round of motif.
Fasten off and darn in ends.
