Dr.Vasanthi Devi in her address said that the State Government should implement RTE Act 2010 which had not been implemented till now. According to the Act, a schools management committee should be constituted in all institutions to manage the schools and ease the burden of CEO who is vested with all powers and responsibilities. The management committee should include Members from NGOs and parents th th also. Students are put in to hardships particularly the girl children students in 11 and 12 , without any basic facilities such as drinking water and Toilet. Documentary Film Release at Madurai In continuation of the release of the Documentary “Enakku Illaiya Kalvi” at Chennai, IHRE planned to release the same in Madurai on 3 rd August 2011. The function was held at Durairaj Peter Auditorium, Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, Madurai. 230 People from political parties, NGOs, college students, ADW school HRE Teachers, CHRM Members, students from universities, Madurai corporation school HRE Teachers. Participated in this program. IHRE organized this program. Dr.Devasahayam facilitated the program.. The Main speakers were Mr.John Moses, Janata Dal(Secular), Mr.Vijaya Kumar, MUTA, Dr.Vasanthi Devi, Chairperson-IHRE, Mr.Nanmaran, CPM, Mr.Henri Tiphagne, Executive Director-PW, Mr.Rajamanickam, Mr.Bharathi Krishnakumar, Director of the Film. Enakku Illaya Kalvi Documentary Film Release in Thiruppur : Enaku Illaya Kalvi Documentary Film Release and Discussion Forum on Common School Systems and Role and Duties in Future. The program was organised by “Kalvi Membattu Koottamaippu” at Kangeyam, Thirupur District. Mr.Chellapandi, Zonal Coordinator and Mr.Thamarai Selvan, Zonal Coordinator, Coimbatore participate in this program on behalf of IHRE th th IHRE conducted Teachers Orientation cum Syllabus Training Program for Rajasthan from 15 to 17 September 2011 at Sophia School, Ajmer. Discussion on Uniform Education at Madurai The education system in the State has worsened from what it was during the 1960s and 70s and there has been an unseen level of commercialization and caste and class based prejudices in the field of education and that too in primary education, according to Dr.V.Vasanthi Devi, Chairperson of the Institute of Human Rights Education (IHRE) She delivered the special address after releasing the 'Chennai Declaration.' at Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, Madurai. She also said that Samacheer Kalvi only serves to bring a common syllabus for schools, while the equality in education is missing She shared that the Chennai declaration is an outcome of a consultative meeting held in Chennai where experts in the field of education shared their views on the efforts to be taken by the Government towards the common education system in Tamilnadu. The discussion also covered the “predatory” fee system in schools and the implementation of the Right to Education Act in the state. Dr.V.Vasanthi Devi stated Social audits and public hearings on the school management committees have revealed the fact that most schools in some parts of Tamil Nadu lack basic amenities like drinking water and toilets. The main demand is to insist on Common school system in Tamilnadu. Dr. Vasanthi Devi released the document and the first copy was received by N.Nanmaran former MLA, Madurai East. The film “Enakku Illaiya Kalvi” was screened which portrayed the condition of Tamil Nadu's government schools and talks about the existing reality of education as discriminatory and prohibitory to the large sections of the masses. Seminar on HRE in ANJA College, Sivakasi The ANJA College, Sivakasi conducted a seminar on “Human Rights Education a Holistic development of Humanity”.on 22 September 2011. Mr.Baskaran, Principal, ANJA College presided over the function. Mr.Henri Tiphagne, Executive Director-PW was one of the Guests invited for the Seminar. He insisted the fact that there were sexual torture still happening in schools. Every human being take steps to stop this inhuman attitude. Human rights violations against women is prevailing in every family and we must take efforts to abolish them. Human rights education should be made compulsory in all the Universities. Dr.I.Devasahayam, Director-IHRE delivered the Plenary Address nd Social Impact Award to PW People's Watch was conferred with Social Impact Award by Times of India in September 2011 for creating and propagating a three-year module on human rights for school children in several states in India.
