Introduction<br />

Effective homogenisation 'opens up'<br />

the test material while effective iso lation<br />

purifies the target molecules by removing<br />

contaminants. So the com bination of<br />

a fully optimised and matching set of<br />

approaches – one for homogenisation<br />

and one for purification – maximises<br />

yield, the reproducibility and the quality<br />

of your downstream method.<br />

This is the approach used in the<br />

<strong>Precellys</strong> RNA & <strong>DNA</strong> kits, carefully<br />

selected optimised tubes with ceramic,<br />

steel or glass beads and purification kits<br />

redesigned from scratch to get the very<br />

best from your samples, all supplied as<br />

a single, easy to use kit. Used with the<br />

<strong>Precellys</strong>, there is no risk of cross contamination<br />

and with very rapid protocols<br />

these kits represent a great 'first<br />

step' in many studies.<br />

<strong>Precellys</strong> ® homogenisation<br />

plus nucleic acid isolation<br />

The key to all of this is optimisation;<br />

optimisation in sample type, volume<br />

and throughput. The <strong>Precellys</strong> ® 24 can<br />

accommodate up to 24 x 2 ml tubes<br />

and the <strong>Precellys</strong> ® Dual can accommodate<br />

2 ml tubes or 7 ml tubes.<br />

The selection of ceramic or glass beads<br />

(or a combination of more than one)<br />

in 2 ml-tubes is matched to the sample<br />

type to bring even the toughest of materials<br />

into fine particles. The control of<br />

the system enables the sample to be<br />

homogenised to release nucleic acids<br />

but not destroy or damage them.<br />

The complementary nucleic acid isolation<br />

kits combines the homogenisation<br />

and lysis in just one step, shortening<br />

protocol times and avoiding sample<br />

handling. The lysate is passed through<br />

the high yielding PerfectBind ® silica columns<br />

which, through centrifugation and<br />

washing, are cleared of proteins, polysaccharides<br />

and unwanted materials<br />

before the high purity <strong>DNA</strong> or RNA is<br />

eluted into RNase free water or elution<br />

buffer ready for downstream use.<br />

The outcome – shorter working times,<br />

less sample handling, less waste and<br />

more reliable and stable downstream<br />

work.<br />

Method<br />

<strong>Precellys</strong> <strong>DNA</strong> kits use the reversible<br />

binding characteristics of PerfectBind ®<br />

silica centrifugation tubes for rapid and<br />

effective sample processing. Samples<br />

are first homogenised and lysed and<br />

then passed through the silica column.<br />

<strong>DNA</strong> selectively binds to the silica<br />

matrix and, after washing, is eluted in<br />

elution buffer or water ready for downstream<br />

use.<br />

PRECELLYS SOIL <strong>DNA</strong> KIT<br />

- For the isolation of high purity <strong>DNA</strong><br />

from soil and mixed material samples.<br />

- Particularly well suited for the isolation<br />

of <strong>DNA</strong> from difficult to lyse microorganisms<br />

- Kit includes <strong>Precellys</strong> glass and<br />

ceramic bead tubes (SK38).<br />
