The beam shape <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> second bunch compressor is also impacted by <strong>the</strong> addition<br />

of <strong>the</strong> third-harmonic module. The slice emittance of <strong>the</strong> tail is small, but due to overcompression,<br />

transverse tails are generated at <strong>the</strong> spike of <strong>the</strong> bunch [32]. This, <strong>in</strong><br />

addition to <strong>the</strong> long, longitud<strong>in</strong>al tail, causes <strong>the</strong> projected emittance to be significantly<br />

larger than <strong>the</strong> slice emittance. With <strong>the</strong> third-harmonic module, <strong>the</strong> projected emittance<br />
