Maria Tuohy, General Manager
April is always a very busy month around the Club. It is
the peak of the tournament golf schedule and it is the month
there seems to be something going on every day whether it
is golf, tennis, fitness programs or dining events. Member
support continues to be high in all areas of the operation,
thank you all so very much.
This years Art Show drew record attendance, a special
thank you to all our members who worked so hard to
organize this event. This is always a wonderful opportunity
to showcase the incredible talent of our residents.
As mentioned before, the Club continues to work
towards a greener environment. The golf course
maintenance departments have started an agricultural
container recycling program. They have teamed up with the
ACRC to get plastics that golf courses produce out of
landfills. This service is free to the club and is paid for by
ACRC members who are mostly the agriculture product
manufacturers. Special thanks to Brad Tucker & Tim Smith
for getting this program started as well as the golf crew Doug
& Keith who helped construct the storage area.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to our new
members; I look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Greetings to all. In the next few weeks you will be
receiving the annual Plantation Bay Survey. Your input is
very important for us to make sure we can keep improving
in all areas of Plantation Bay. Thank you in advance for

I am also happy to let you know that I have been asked
to keep this letter to a minimum because of all the
promotions for activities at the Clubs are taking up much
of the space. With that said, nothing makes me happier
than to know our members are enjoying such and active
lifestyle. That has always been a big priority for Club
Management and will continue to make sure to keep things
fresh and fun.

I wanted to write you a note to tell about one of
your outstanding employees. As Tournament
Chairperson for the Club De Bonmont Women's
Golf Association, I have had the privilege of working
with Judy on many different occasions. Judy is a true
GEM. I sincerely believe that she is a true asset to
Plantation Bay. Often in life people do not get
recognized for the good things that they do for others.
I felt it was time that I put something in writing for
you. Judy is one more reason that I wake up every
morning and love life here at Plantation Bay.

HOSPICE BENEFIT
Club de Bonmont at Plantation Bay will be hosting a
golf tournament on Monday, April 4, 2011 to raise money
for Hospice Benefit.
In the past our community has held fund raising golf
tournaments for Hospice. On April 2004 and March 2009,
we raised a total over $47,000.
We would like to dedicate this tournament in memory
of Marylou Trousdell. She was a very special person,
inspired and loved by all that knew her.
In addition to the golf tournament, we are seeking hole
sponsors, gifts for prizes and any donations in any amount.
We appreciate your support for this fundraising event. All
donations are tax deductible, checks should be made out to
Hospice Benefit.

Golf Shop News
The golf season is now in full swing at
Plantation Bay and our members are
enjoying all of the fun events scheduled
for this time of year. As the temperatures have warmed up,
so has the competition. Our association and club events
have had great participation this year and we look forward
to the rest of the tournaments on tap for this season. Don’t
forget to check the tournament schedules posted in both
golf shops to make sure not to miss out on your chance to
compete.
TIP FROM THE TOP
“Don’t Unwind Too Soon”
One of the most common problems for most golfers is
the unwinding of the shoulders too soon on the
forward part of the golf swing. When uncoiling your
shoulders too quickly in the forward swing, the
clubhead is thrown or casted out over the target line
and approaches the ball from an outside path causing a
slice or pull. To keep the clubhead on an inside path
towards the ball, we must keep our shoulders from
unwinding until late in the downswing. Keeping this
in mind while you practice will help you to hit the ball
straighter and more solid.
TWILIGHT GOLF KICKOFF
AT PRESTWICK
The golf staff will host the first Twilight golf tournament of
the year at Prestwick on Friday, May 6th. Make sure to
mark your calendars to play. We look forward to a fun
summer season with the introduction of a new points and
pairings system to mix things up a little and bolster
participation in this fun summer time golf series. Check the
golf shop posting boards in April to sign up.

MEN’S MEMBER – MEMBER
“GATHERING OF THE CLANS”
The annual Men's Member - Member Championship was
contested over three days of head to head match play
competition with each clan playing a match against every
other clan in the tournament. This year's tournament saw
a healthy increase over last year's field with 84 players
participating and enjoying great weather and golf course
conditions. The event was kicked off on Thursday,
February 17th with a player's party and scotch tasting and
wrapped up Saturday, February 19th with an awards
ceremony and steak fry at Club de Bonmont. We thank all
of our participants for making it such a fun tournament and
we look forward to another great event for 2012. Listed

VALENTINE'S SWEETHEART
MIXED GOLF TOURNAMENT
Sunday, February 13th
A field of 104 players enjoyed this year's Valentine's
Mixed event played on the Prestwick course. A 6 hole
putting contest was held prior to a 12:30 pm shotgun start.
The format was best ball on the front nine and a step aside
scramble on the back nine. We also had a prize for the most
festively dressed foursome. Thank you to all of our

PRESTWICK NINERS
Happy Spring!
Our Hubby Scramble was played on January 19th.
The afternoon was sunny & warm and a good time was had
by all. On February 9th, Prestwick hosted the Coastal
Niner tournament. Congratulations to Mable Bailey,
Claire Lipowski, Ceil Masterson, Carole Spitalli and
Bernice Stamford who were on the winning teams. April is
always a busy month. We will end our Coastal Niner season
at Cypress Knolls on April 7th, and have our annual
meeting. Next season the Prestwick Niners' & Club de
Bonmont Niners' will join together for all Coastal Niner
events. We will be called "The Plantation Bay Niners". On
April 13th we host our annual Member-Guest
Invitational, and then end the month with our
championship rounds on April 20 and April 27th. Our golf
season ends May 11th with our Member-Member
tournament. We will hold our elections, present our awards
to our champions… and say goodbye to all our snowbirds.
Before I close, I would like to thank everyone at the
Prestwick Club House for making our Wednesday golf
special - and - for making our special golf events
"Outstanding" !!!

CLUB DE BONMONT MEN’S
GOLF ASSOCIATION
Participation in CDB events has been excellent for the
first two months of the year(2011). The members have
enjoyed the complimentary beer and hotdog lunches. The
lunches will continue on the second Wednesday of every
month. In March the President's Cup, a two day flighted
event is scheduled with prizes and a steak and beer lunch
included for the $15 entry fee. (The normal daily fee for
events is $3., which is all allocated to prizes). Please plan
on playing in the President's Cup on the 9th and 16th of
the month. The scheduled weekly events are arranged to
allow for flighted competition twice a month, so golfers of
similar skills can compete against each other; the other
events for the month are designed to group golfers of
different handicaps so that all groups will have similar total
handicaps. The goal is to provide games that everyone will
enjoy. If you have not joined us recently for a CDB event
please plan on playing with the group. You will enjoy the
sociability, lunches and competition. We look forward to
seeing you Wednesdays.

CLUB DE BONMONT WOMEN’S
GOLF ASSOCIATION
This year the weather has been the factor for
cancelling our annual Member/Member Tournament in
January. It has been postponed until March 31, 2011 and
restructured as a one day tournament.
The gals did manage to play our annual President's
Cup tournament on January 27th and February 3rd
resulting in the overall championship team of Annie
Zambrano and Arlene Peters. Congratulations to all of our
flighted winners.
We also celebrated two special ladies birthdays on
those days: Happy Birthday Carolynne Watts 88 years old
on January 27th and Joy Gloer 75 years old on February
3rd.
Our Outreach Program, chaired by Val Nicholson, is
doing an outstanding job. Our adopted family in Bunnell
has received everything from furniture, linens, lamps,
appliances, etc. along with Christmas gifts and dinner all
due to the generosity of our league members. Because of
this generosity, we have been able to adopt another family
in need. At this time we are purchasing food and clothing
for them. Thank you ladies, you are the greatest!
Our annual "Bring A Friend" Tournament will be held
on April 7th with a 1pm shotgun with dinner and awards
to follow. The cost will be $100 for you and your guest so
keep a lookout for applications and sign-up sheets. You
won't want to miss it-this is one of our favorite events of
the season.
Our closing tournament, luncheon, awards and
election of officers will be held on April 29th. Have a
Healthy and Happy Spring.

CLUB DE BONMONT NINERS
Well we are now coming to the end of our play year.
We have many great events, just completing our Coastal
Niner event on March 14. This is the last year that we will
host as CDB and in the future we will be competing and
hosting as Plantation Bay Niners in combination with
Prestwick Niners.
On March 31, we played a Hubby Scramble and in the
future we will combine with Prestwick for this event as well
as our Member/Member and Member/Guest.
We will be attending our Member/Guest at Prestwick
this year on April 13 and are looking forward to our annual
luncheon at Katie’s on May 5 to end our season.

PRESTWICK WOMEN’S
GOLF ASSOCIATION
We celebrated our annual Pauli Waddle Tournament
& Social in January. Pauli was our first association
president. She loved animals and was a volunteer at the
Flagler Humane Society. The tournament chairwomen,
Rosemary Bunton and Cathy Long organized a great event.
They collected donations of food, blankets and supplies as
well as donations for the pets at the shelter. We were
blessed with the best weather of our long cold winter. (I’m
sure Pauli was smiling down on us!) The tournament raised
more than $1,000 and the staff at Flagler were
overwhelmed with our continued generosity. Rosemary and
Cathy did a super job and we all appreciated their hard
work. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Volusia
county Championship scheduled April 25th and 26th at
LPGA International. The event is flighted so you’ll be
competing against golfers with skill levels similar to yours.
Prestwick always has a great turnout and we have had many
winners from the overall champion through all the flights.

elections and a new budget will be approved. A new
program has been started on the last Thursday of the
month. Draft beer will be provided to PGMA members
after Thursday golf. We are also looking forward to the
coming year of away golf outings organized by Fred Wallen.

Turf Talk…
Hello spring. Wow, what a great time of the year.
Now looking back on the 10’ – 11’ winter it fortunately
was not as cold as the previous year. Rest assured that all
of us here at golf maintenance are excited to have all of
the frost delays over with. In this edition of the
newsletter, I wanted to shift gears a bit. I would like to
focus on the community and common grounds rather
than the golf course this quarter.
Whether you are a golfer or not, I believe there is
one thing all members and residents here at Plantation
Bay can agree on. We would all love to have a litter free
and cleaner community. It is not in my genetic makeup
to ride by a piece of litter and not pick it up. Actually, I
often think to myself that the day I ride by a piece of
trash and not pick it up, is the day I should no longer be
a golf course superintendent. Daily, I fill the dash of my
cart with cups, snack wrappers, lids, etc. that have been
left behind by others. Please understand that I know that
it is not the job of members or residents to daily go on
litter patrol. But, there are several little things we can all
do that will go a long way. As you are riding thru the
community in your cart, please take care to secure the
items in the cart. A large amount of the litter that we
pick up daily comes from being blown out of carts. The
common grounds or golf maintenance departments see
the entire community everyday. All of us in these
departments would greatly appreciate your help.
On a golf course note, the course maintenance
departments have another busy summer ahead of us.
Aerification, topdressing, verticutting and mole cricket
control application are all on the schedule for this
summer. The course aerification schedules are as follows:
Prestwick May 17 th – 22 nd
August 8 th – 14 th
CDB June 6 th – 12 th
August 22 nd – 28 th
The courses will be closed for these very important
cultural practices. Hope everyone has a great summer.

Golf, Fitness, Tennis, Bocce, and
Clubhouse Dining amenities. The policies
listed below can also be found in your
Membership Plan and Rule Regulations
provided to members. Members must
accompany their guest and register at the
appropriate golf shop prior to scheduled
tee time. Members and guests are required
to register at the fitness center front desk
for use of fitness, tennis, bocce and spa
services.
GUEST POLICIES FOR GOLF
• Clubhouse & Fitness Members may
only be the guest of a full golf member
one (1) time in a calendar year.
(Applicable guest fees apply)
• Sports Members may be the guest of a
full golf member one (1) time during
peak season and are permitted to play six
(6) times during non-peak season.
(Applicable guest fees apply)
• Plantation Bay Non-Member residents
may only be the guest of a member one
(1) time in a calendar year per amenity.
Resident’s outside the Plantation Bay
Community may be the guest of a
member no more than six (6) times in a
calendar year (excluding immediate
family members).
• Members and guests are required to
arrange a tee time through the golf shop
and check in prior to play. “YELLOW”
guest tags will be issued for
identification purposes on the courses.
• Practice Facilities are for the sole use of
our Full Golf members and their guests.

Fitness News
We started 2011 with a Splash. On January 8, at
approximately 11:30 am Fitness Center Staff and
Plantation Bay Members began a new tradition by jumping
in to the lap pool – Our own version of a
“Polar Bear Plunge”. A number of friends were at
poolside to witness the beginning of this new tradition.
The water temperature was approximately 50 degrees at
the time of the plunge. The brave and energetic group was
almost evenly split between men and women.
After the plunge the participants were treated to Hot
Chocolate and chocolate chocolate-chip cake. Some
brave souls added Peppermint Schnapps’ to their Hot
Chocolate.
Plans are already being made for our plunge for 2012.
Mark your calendars for the first Saturday after January 1.
Our “Build a Community, while Shaping your Body”
was a close race. All the communities were neck and neck
to complete their area. We had almost 50 members who
participated in 4 different teams. At the time of this
article – Magnolia Estates is in the lead, followed by
Westlake, Bay Isles and lastly Prestwick. Congratulations
to all of our participants. It was fun – we even had a
member calling in from out of the country to log in his

activity. Watch for news about our “Royal Plantation
Cruise” – our next exercise competition. We are also in
the process of planning our spring charity event. Keep your
eyes out for the announcement of the date. It will be
another Walk, Bike and Tennis Round Robin.
Weight Watchers has been a huge success – we had a
total of 28 for our New Years session. This current session
will end on April 13 th and a new session will begin on
April 20. If success is what you are looking for, this group
provides support, motivation and shares personal
challenges. Meetings are on Wednesdays – Weigh–In at
3:45pm and informative meeting begins at 4:00.
Lastly – we would like to commend all of our new
members, and/or existing members who made those New
Year’s Resolutions and stuck to them. We are proud of you
and want to encourage you to keep up the good work. You
will feel and see the results and enjoy the fruits of your
labors.
Remember – warmer weather is fast approaching.
Stay hydrated, please make sure to drink plenty of
water.

IMPROVE YOUR VOLLEY WITH BETTER AIM
I often observe club level matches and notice that even
the most skilled players have trouble putting away the
volley from the net. The ball continually goes back to the
opponent until the back court player eventually hits a
passing shot or forces an error or lobs over the net players
head. What’s a player to do?
First of all, most errors are made because the wrist does
not stay firm enough during contact. To cure misdirection
one must turn the palm of the hitting hand in the direction
one wants the ball to go.Once contact is made, freeze! By
freezing at contact the racquet will stay behind the ball
longer increasing the likelihood that the ball will go where
it is aimed. Try it next time you play. You will be happy you
did!
SUMMER TENNIS & GOLF CAMP
Weekly sessions of summer camp will begin on Monday
June 13th. There are nine separate weeks scheduled. They
are the weeks of: June 13, 20, 27; July 5th (4 days-pro
rated), 11, 18, 25; August 1 & 8
The main focus of the camp is tennis and swimming
every morning. The camp is for kids ages 6 through 14.
Groups are formed by age and ability. It’s bring your own
lunch poolside from noon to 1 o’clock. Golf and swimming
take place in the afternoon. Indoor fitness, Wii video
games, board and card games provide breaks from the sun
or rain throughout the day. The camp runs daily rain or
shine. Camp times are:
Half day (AM) 9:30 am - 12 pm
Half day (PM) 1 pm - 4 pm
Full day 9:30 am - 4 pm
