Closing Remarks by the PAPC Chairman - PMAESA

SPEECH BY PAPC CHAIRMAN DURING CLOSING CEREMONY OF
THE 7 TH PAPC CONFERENCE AT THE DJIBOUTI PALACE
KEMPINSKI HOTEL ON 16 TH DECEMBER 2008.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
During the last two days, we have been nourished with brilliant presentations
from some of the worlds top experts on matters related to the maritime and
transport sector.
Our packed programme has successfully managed to thrash out some of the
critical issues affecting our industry and presented possible alternatives to
resolving them.
I wish to thank all the presenters who took time to prepare the impressive papers
which we had the privilege of listening to because it is only at these forums that
we can effectively address those pertinent issues that face us daily in our policy
implementations.
I would also like to thank the conference organizers for the time they have spent
to enable this gathering of like minds to occur.
We know it has taken numerous sleepless nights by the two planning committees
(Mombasa and Djibouti) to synchronize the programmes and ensure the last two
days seamless flow of events.
Thank you for your efforts and commitment because it helps Africa and the world
to commune in a confluence of ideas that will enable easier integration of the
regions and development of new partnerships with our stakeholders.
Finally, you will all agree with me that the hosts of this conference – Port of
Djibouti and DP World have exceeded themselves in their measure of hospitality
which will make this conference one of the most memorable for a long time to
come.
We are fully appreciative of your generosity.

We hope that the recommendations that have been derived from this conference
will offer the participants a fresh outlook to deal with the challenges facing them
at their places of work and that it will offer new opportunities to herald the
continent to greater heights.
For those of you who will be departing from Djibouti tomorrow, I wish you on
behalf of the PAPC council a safe journey back to your homes.
For those who remain, I welcome you to the next round of events which will
continue tomorrow and on Thursday before our business here is finished.
There are series of social events which you will appraise of as we come to the
close of this conference.
It is with this few words after an extremely busy working session that I now
declare the 7 th PAPC Conference officially closed.
