This particular Research Report presents an overview of research activities in the
School of Political Science and International Studies over the period 2007-2009. This
report will be the first in an ongoing series of Research Reports which showcase the
research achievements and output of the School of Political Science and International
Studies.
The School’s twenty-four full-time academic staff members, the School’s postdoctoral
researchers as well as many of its research higher degree students are actively
engaged in researching and publishing in their fields. The School’s research profile
spans the areas of international relations, peace and conflict studies, governance,
Australian and regional politics, political economy, development and gender studies.
Recent research highlights include the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Centre for the
Responsibility to Protect as a School Centre in 2009.
The report provides benchmark information on research achievements since the most
recent School Review (conducted in 2006) and prior to the implementation of a 3-year
Research Plan for 2010-2012. Under the 2010-2012 Research Plan, the School seeks to
expand its international and national reputation through high quality research and
publications and further development of external academic and community linkages.
It particularly seeks to focus research activity on high quality journal and book
publications and on success in obtaining external research grant funding.
