Research Report 2007 - 2009 Visiting Scholars 2007 - 2009 Great Court, St Lucia Campus The School of Political Science and International Studies is keen to establish and consolidate relationships with scholars from Australia and overseas. The Visiting Scholars Program was established in 2007 to encourage exceptional scholars working in related fields to spend a period of time researching and collaborating with scholars within the School. Experience with the program indicates that our visiting scholarships are keenly sought and are highly competitive. The Visiting Scholars Program is ideally suited to scholars who are on sabbatical or research leave and who are interested in collaborating with members of the School. 2007 Jason Ralph Jason Ralph is Reader of International Relations at the University of Leeds. He specializes in the “English School” approach to International Relations, which is interested in the question of whether ‘Society’ can exist beyond the state. It focuses on how the institutions of international society (eg international law, war, balance of power), are being changed by the process of globalization. His contribution to this research agenda has been to highlight the social role that international criminal justice has played in reconstructing international and world society along ‘solidarist’ lines. During his time at the Universtiy of Queensland he completed work that led to the publication of ‘The Laws of War and the state of the American Exception’, Review of International Studies Vol 35, no.3, pp631 – 649, and ‘Which Cosmopolitanism?
