rate was 2d per half-ounce]<br />

1930 (June 21) to Perth per "Aerial Mail" with extraordinary franking of Third Wmk Roo 6d brown pair &<br />

KGV SMult Perf 13½x12½ 3d Die IA single & block of 4 - including Types A-B pair - plus 3d Die II<br />

single all perf 'OS' & tied by 'PORT HEDLAND/WESTERN AUSTRALIA' cds, a few minor defects.<br />

132 C B - entire makeshift parcel label (200x170mm) still affixed to a slightly larger piece from a linen bag to<br />

Switzerland with an amazing seven-colours franking comprising Roos 6d brown, 1/- x2 & 2/- maroon<br />

vetical pair (the upper-unit Chopped Neck BW #39d) + KGV ½d orange, 1d green, 'TWO/PENCE' on<br />

1½d red & 3d blue all tied by 'PARCEL POST/ROCKHAMPTON' cds, noted as weighing 150oz or "11<br />

lbs avoid", insured for £50 with a green/white 'INSURED PARCEL' label (not previously seen by us),<br />

on arrival two Swiss labels added, some minor blemishes but remarkably fine for such an item. Truly<br />

astonishing!<br />

With a letter from Richard Breckon confirming the postage of 5/4d for a parcel weighing between 8 &<br />

11 pounds (represented by the stamps at upper-right), plus 1/8½d - the stamps at lower-right - for<br />

insurance cover between £48 & £50. Also with the relevant extracts from the 1930 "Post Office Guide".<br />

The bag probably contained sapphires as it is from one of the prominent gemstone miners at "Sapphire<br />

via Anakie" in central Queensland. Other towns in the vicinity are Emerald & Rubyvale.{Page 29.1}<br />

1936 J & N Tait (theatre operators, imprint on reverse) quadruple rate airmail cover to Germany with<br />

5/- Roo & KGV 1/4d (slightly overlapping) plus 6d Large Kooka tied by 'SHIP MAIL ROOM/<br />

MELBOURNE' cds, endorsed "Via Italy", no backstamps, peripheral blemishes & some age spotting.<br />

[The rate was 1/9d for the first ½oz plus 1/8d x3 for additional 1½oz, plus 1d late fee]<br />
