Description<br />

The cavity <strong>temperature</strong> plays an important part in the monitoring, and closed-loop control of the injection<br />

molding process. It is only possible to describe the quality of a molded part completely by measuring the<br />

cavity pressure and the cavity <strong>temperature</strong>.<br />

Depending on the application it is recommended to measure either cavity pressure, or the cavity<br />

<strong>temperature</strong> or both signals at the same time. Proven applications are balancing of hotrunners,<br />

measuring the viscosity or the automatic detection of the melt front.<br />

PRIAMUS® cavity <strong>temperature</strong> <strong>sensor</strong>s have been especially designed to be used in the mold cavity. In<br />

this context the reaction time of the <strong>sensor</strong>s play a vital role.<br />

The thermocouple <strong>type</strong> N has significant advantages compared to the common material combinations<br />

used in the industry. While the thermocouple <strong>type</strong> J consists of corrosive materials, and the thermocouple<br />

<strong>type</strong> K shows inaccuracies up to 3 °C even in the lower <strong>temperature</strong> range (50 ... 200 °C), the<br />

thermocouple <strong>type</strong> N has overcome these short comings.<br />

Application<br />

This <strong>sensor</strong> has been optimized for monitoring and closed-loop control of injection molding process in an<br />

industrial environment.<br />
