BIOGRAPHY 

Albert Moehring is the founder and Music Director of the highly 

acclaimed Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra (now in its 18 th season). 

Moehring developed a fledgling group of musicians into a highly skilled 75 

member professional symphonic orchestra. He is also widely sought after 

guest conductor performing classical, operatic and popular literature with 

many orchestras around the USA, Canada, Mexico and Asia. 

In 2003, Maestro Moehring spent three weeks traveling throughout 

Asia conducting the Hollywood Festival Orchestra. In the fall of 2005 

Moehring began conducting the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra and 

the Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra and held workshops for the musicians. 

This affiliation continues to the present day. His popularity with the 

musicians and audiences, with seven standing ovations at one concert, 

resulted in continuing engagements with these orchestras plus additional 

invitations including the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra. 

Born in Amsterdam, Holland, Albert Moehring received his musical 

training, performance diploma/music degree at the prestigious Royal 

Conservatory of Music and University of Toronto in Canada. He pursued 

conducting studies and training at the Aspen School of Music in Aspen, 

Colorado. He has worked and studied with renowned conductors as Walter 

Susskind, Leonard Bernstein, Leonard Slatkin and Peter Maag. His past 

musical affiliations and engagements include the prestigious Metropolitan 

Opera Company in New York and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, 

Canada. 

His dedication and unique concept for programming has made the 

concert hall accessible to the entire community. His energy and passion 

coupled with his charismatic personality for the music has brought the 

Charlotte arts community to a new level of excellence and achievement. 

Maestro Moehring brings concert audiences the music they love ---- 

innovative programming blending classic music and Broadway show tunes. 

Under his leadership, the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra has experienced 

tremendous musical growth and earned the Philharmonic recognition as one 

of the finest orchestras in the Southeast United States and an outstanding 

asset to the Charlotte arts community. 

In 2000, Moehring was awarded the “Spirit Award” sponsored by the 

Charlotte Mint Museum on behalf of the City of Charlotte.

The Philharmonic and Maestro Moehring have been recognized on 

several occasions by the Mayor of Charlotte proclaiming “Charlotte 

Philharmonic Orchestra Day” for the contribution the orchestra has made to 

the life of the city.

Voted “Charlotte’s Best” by Charlotte Magazine, the Maestro and the 

orchestra were recognized for their artistic merits and affordable pricing 

making it possible for many more residents of the local community to enjoy 

live orchestral music. 

Also under Maestro Moehring’s direction, the Charlotte Philharmonic 

recorded thirteen CD recordings and six DVDs/television specials. The 

Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra is currently working on its seventh 

television special. Philharmonic television specials are aired internationally 

on PBS stations before audiences of 95,000,000 plus viewers. The last 

Philharmonic television special aired in 44 states, Canada and Mexico. 

On Christmas Eve 2004, Holiday Spectacular” was the highest rated 

program on Los Angeles public television station KLCS. 

Charlotte public radio station WDAV’s popular broadcast “Carolina 

Live’ regularly features live cuts from Philharmonic concerts.

DUTIES PERFORMED AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 

As Executive Director, Albert Moehring was responsible for hiring, supervision and 

managing of all human and financial resources of the Charlotte Philharmonic Society. 

Under his financial oversight, the Society was able to fulfill its mission and achieve its 

goals for artistic excellence, financial stability, audience development, and community 

engagement. Moehring fostered positive relationships among the area public and private 

schools, area post-secondary institutions, and the community music schools. He nurtured 

productive relationships with government leaders, foundations, other arts organizations 

and a broad range of other non-profits. He continues to stay current with the latest trends, 

comparative data, innovations in orchestras and related activities. Albert provides the 

leadership, vision, and information necessary to allow the Board of Directors to establish 

policies and strategic plans for the continuing development of the organization. He also 

directed the organization’s development program and had oversight of the development 

plan, coordinating solicitation calls, training of support staff and tracking Board 

development activities, and he continues to maintain strong professional and personal 

relationships with the donor community. 

Albert Moehring was responsible and accountable for all aspects of the organization's 

management and operations, including: development and fundraising, marketing and 

audience development, budgeting and financial management, audits, authoring and 

preparing portfolios for corporate presentations, artistic administration, concert 

production, public relations, human resource management, collective bargaining

negotiations, educational activities, and community relations. He also maintained 

relations with the orchestra’s auxiliary organizations. 

As chief operating officer of the Society and ex officio member of the Board of Directors, 

Mr. Moehring reported to the Board of Directors. His duties included: to facilitate and 

support the work of the Board and its committees, and ensure that the Board and its 

committees are properly staffed. As Executive Director, Moehring added impetus to the 

fundraising efforts of the Board, as well as supervising, motivate, evaluate and provide 

leadership to the administrative staff. Additionally, he developed and maintained a 

professional environment that allowed the Music Director, musicians of the orchestra, 

guest artists and company members to do their best work. 

As the spokesperson for the Philharmonic Orchestra in the Charlotte community, 

Moehring established and maintained productive working relationships with other arts, 

educational, and community organizations in the area and sought opportunities for 

partnerships that support the mission and goals of the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra.

As producer, Albert Moehring has provided 6 musical television specials to PBS (Public 

Broadcasting Service). These programs have aired in 44 states, Canada and Mexico 

reaching over 95 million households. In cooperation with the Charlotte Philharmonic 

Orchestra, Moehring produced 13 CD recordings of classical and popular music. These 

recordings have been sold and distributed to a worldwide market.
