Mondraker launches its new Plunder
Mondraker launches its new model for the most extreme Freeride called Plunder. The Plunder
will be the bike for riders who are looking for the most intense mountain biking sensations. All
its potential will be demonstrated in Bike Parks, Freeride trails and most of Downhill courses.
Concept / Use
The main concept was to offer a new FR bike capable to face everything. The 2007 range needed
a bike similar to the Petrol’s performance for downhill, but looking for different skills in term of
weight, agility and pedalling efficiency; a bike capable to face all descents and the most
technical areas, a bike able to play with the burms and to carry your speed with you, and this
even though you are not a pro athlete.
Besides classic Downhill, the new
Plunder is the perfect weapon for a
Bike Park use with artificial obstacles,
ramps, drops and wall-rides... The
Plunder was also designed for those
new kinds of extreme rides that have
become very popular; short distance
outings but very demanding as riders
are ready to swallow positive vertical
drop too, looking for new pristine
“impossible areas”. That kind of riding
is extremely demanding as you need a
very versatile bike with high strength
and resistance, big absorption ready, light weight, and an acceptable pedalling position for more
comfort and performance.
Construction / Design
The new Plunder frame is totally made in Aluminium 6061 T6 with a special subsequent
treatment raising its hardness. It has been proved that this kind of aluminium is strong and
reliable when it comes to develop frames that will support the roughest conditions.
The main triangle is formed by a monocoque main tube of variable thickness, made from a
moulded plate to get a perfect section for maximum rigidity and strength. To offer the best
steering precision, a OnePontFive head tube has been chosen with also two extra side
reinforcements. Furthermore, two big perforated CNC plates are placed in the middle area,
covering the shock and bearing all structural weight of the upper square section tube and also
vertical tube.
To finish with the front side, it is important to highlight the use of the ISCG international system
in order to be able to place any type of chainguide on the bottom bracket.

The rear side gets generous square section links, with sealed bearings in both main pivot and
Horst Link and CNC machined rear drop-outs
with a reinforcement linked to the squared
rearstays by big welding cords. These drop-outs
are designed for a 12mm diameter through axle
and a 150mm hub, that way a higher
stability and stiffness at the rear is
obtained. Finally, you will find a CNC
machined main link with a stainless steel
shaft for a better strength and longer
longevity.
Cinematic / Geometry
When it was time to develop the cinematic, our top priorities were to get a suspension system
with the biggest absorption ability as possible but also very sensitive on small bumps; and for
this, nothing better than the roots of our Petrol Downhill cinematic.
This system is based on a distorted parallelogram with four pivots (four-bar rear suspension), and
one of them attaches the rear axle to the seatstay instead of the swingarm (Horst Link). The
Horst Link allows the wheel to move freely in a vertical path, avoiding chain tension and braking.
We have also achieved to minimize the brake calliper action, so even when the rear wheel is
stuck, the suspension remains fully active and does not get compressed or extended.
Furthermore, the specific main link plays a key role in the suspension system. Firstly, when the
main link is at its initial position with an appropriate SAG of 25%, the angle over the shock
offers an amazing sensitivity and the best traction ever as soon as the terrain gets rough (put your
hands on the saddle, compress it slowly and enjoy the sweetness!). Then the shock gets
compressed progressively, offering maximum control through all its travel, enable to fully use
the 180mm travel of the bike easily while keeping a sweet bottom-out control.

Main features
• 2 models: Plunder, Plunder R
• 3 sizes available: S (16”), M (18”) and L (20”)
• Alloy Aluminium 6061 T6.
• Customized pipe, using monocoque technology
and also numerical control parts.
• Suspension system by distorted parallelogram with
four pivots and Horst Link.
• No pedaling contamination.
• Rear brake interaction with the suspension behaviour reduced to minimal.
• Great initial feeling with progressiveness and control through the whole travel.
• Low gravity centre geometry and accurate free distance to the ground.

Specifications
The selection of the components has been made under the same strict guidelines than for the
frame construction; looking for the best performance and reliability without compromising the
final weight. For MY07 we will find two new models: the Plunder as a first price model and the
Plunder R as a high end model.
We would like to emphasize the choice of Marzocchi forks with the new 66 with 180mm travel
and also a new customized 1.5’’steerer tube. That way, we achieve the perfect balance between
rear and front, offering the same touch, initial feeling and progressivity.
FOX DHX's 3.0 and 5.0 rear shox are also very important as they are fully part of the design of
the cinematic system. DHX's are packed with high-end technologies, easy to use for the end
consumer though and enable you to get the ultimate setup in each situation.
The other components are at the same level too: Shimano Saint transmission, Formula Oro
205/185mm brakes, new FSA crankset with dual Gravity ring, Sun Ringle full wheel kit, Fizi:k
Freek saddle and new Mondraker CNC components that will surprise you with their innovative
design and aesthetic.
Price of the new Plunder will be CHF 4390 and CHF 5390 for his big brother Plunder R. These
new models will replace the Level family within the '07 Mondraker range. However, a unique
Level model will be kept as first price model for FR initiation at CHF 2999.-; that should be the
choice for the youngest riders.
