Summer School / The Drawing Marathon
The Drawing Week Double Marathon
10 or 5 day course: Monday 9 - Friday 13 July and Monday 16 - Friday 20 July
Studio 1 / 10am-5pm
An intensive two week course, specially designed for those students really interested in improving
their drawing skills. Students will have the opportunity to work with four tutors over
the two weeks — each week culminating in a critique of students’ work. The intention of the
double marathon is for students to progress from one week to the next, however, students
unable to commit to both weeks will be able to book on to either Part One or Part Two.
* All levels welcome including beginners
* A concessionary rate of £350 will be available to any student embarking on the full
Two Week Double Marathon
Fee: £350 The Drawing Week Double Marathon (two week course)
OR
Fee: £200 One week Marathon only (Part One OR Part Two)
Part One: Monday 9 — Friday 13 July (five days)
Tutors: Robert Dukes and Harriet Miller
Drawing from a life model in the studio, students will begin by making quick drawings,
progressing to more sustained studies that consider the physical relationship of the model
to their surroundings. Students will explore proportion and relationships of form, moving
into linear sensitivity and tonal relationships. Discussion of the various reasons for making
life-drawings will be encouraged.
Fee: £200 per week
Part Two: Monday 16 – Friday 20 July (five days)
Tutors: Charlotte Mann and Ann Dowker
This week will give students the opportunity to draw both in the studio, from film and from
the collections at The National Gallery, with poses from paintings studied being recreated
later in the studio with a life model. The days will be structured around these different starting
points, as well as exercises and challenges designed to keep us on our toes, awake and
alert, to all the possibilities of drawing.
Fee: £200 per week
