Cato, Jr., School of Education Student Self Assessment for Admission to Teacher Education Program Queens University of Charlotte has identified the crucial role of the teacher as that of an independent learner. It is critical that teachers keep abreast of current knowledge and skills in their field of study. Their task is to be a model of a learned/learning person for students and through role modeling and instruction to give students the tools that enable them to become independent learners themselves. At the admission stage, students must demonstrate an awareness of these dispositions; therefore, students seeking admission to the program must complete the following disposition checklist as a self-assessment. If an assessment cannot be made for any area, please indicate with “NA”. On a 4 – 1 scale; with 4 representing outstanding, 3 satisfactory, 2 marginal, and 1 unacceptable; please place a check in the appropriate rating in each of the following: Candidate Disposition(s) 1.
