Based on our current semi-hermetic product range, with its outstanding<br />

advantages and features, as well as our longstanding activities<br />

and field applications for the transport sector, there is now a<br />

perfectly matched compressor series available for <strong>subcritical</strong> CO 2<br />

cascade systems.<br />

Especially suited to supermarket refrigeration applications and industrial<br />

refrigeration.<br />

Possible overpressure of up to 43 bar.<br />

Special features:<br />

CO 2 as a refrigerant<br />

Within refrigeration technology, carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is known by<br />

the name R744 and has a long history. It is a colourless gas which<br />

liquefies under pressure and has a slightly acidic smell and taste.<br />

Carbon dioxide has no ozone depletion potential (ODP=0) and a negligible<br />

direct effect on global warming (GWP=1) when used as a<br />

refrigerant in closed systems. It is not combustible, is chemically<br />

inactive and heavier than air.<br />

Carbon dioxide has a narcotic and asphyxiating effect on humans<br />

only at higher concentrations.<br />

Carbon dioxide is available naturally in large quantities.<br />

As Bock <strong>compressors</strong> are extremely high quality and robust, the<br />

coordination with the CO 2 is limited primarily to the motor design<br />

together with the individual mechanism adjustments as well as<br />

small modifications in the valve and seal areas.<br />

This permits the greatest possible level of operational safety through<br />

the extensive use of tried-and-trusted standard parts.<br />

In addition, there are the best possible conditions for economic spare<br />

part storage.<br />

Oil<br />

The <strong>compressors</strong> are equipped with Bock C55E, a special oil filling,<br />

which is available directly from Bock. This is a synthetic ester oil<br />

with high thermal load resistance, allowing good mixing solubility<br />

with CO 2 . It possesses a special additive, which protects the <strong>compressors</strong><br />

against wear, even when subjected to extreme loads, such<br />

as those which exist in CO 2 systems. This oil can be used both in<br />

transcritical and in <strong>subcritical</strong> systems.<br />

Performance data<br />

The performance data for CO 2 are based on 20 K suction gas superheat<br />

without liquid subcooling, at 50 Hz power supply frequency.<br />

These are preliminary values as no uniform reference data are available.<br />

Besides which the influence of the oil part on refrigeration performance<br />

is largely unknown. Variations cannot be excluded.<br />
