This is a recording of the much acclaimed and spectacular
»Copenhagen Ring« by director Kasper Bech
Holten. By setting each of the four operas in a pivotal
decade of the twentieth century, the story of Brünhilde
becomes also a history of the modern age and the
ideologies and conflicts that tore it apart. A cast of
outstanding singers and the breathtaking technical
facilities of the new Copenhagen Opera House make
it a staggering operatic event and a landmark staging
of »The Ring«.
This series of films depicts six very different poems
from six different places in the British Isles. Each film
tells the story of a poem – where it comes from, how
it works and the nature and reach of its influence and
legacy. Presenter Owen Sheers passionately believes
that poems, and particularly poems of place, not only
affect us as individuals, but can have the power to
mark and define a collective experience – our identities,
our country, our land.
