Course Tutor<br />

Jenny Thompson – Director of SEND, Buckinghamshire Learning Trust<br />

Jenny has extensive experience in <strong>the</strong> field of SEND having worked in various<br />

settings having worked in Primary, Secondary, Fur<strong>the</strong>r Education and Higher<br />

Education. Over <strong>the</strong> last 18 months Jenny has specifically worked in settings at<br />

risk of going into special measures with a focus on school improvement as well as<br />

working with Nasen for five years. Jenny’s role with Nasen involved developing<br />

and implementing training to SENCOs and o<strong>the</strong>r staff across <strong>the</strong> UK. Jenny has<br />

worked very closely with schools to ensure high quality provision for children and<br />

young people with SEND and has developed and implemented undergraduate and<br />

post graduate programmes of study for Educational practitioners.<br />

Course Description<br />

This is <strong>the</strong> system that is replacing <strong>the</strong> current School Action and School Action Plus arrangements.<br />

A half-day course to cover <strong>the</strong> new approaches for supporting pupils causing concerns.<br />

Course Content<br />

• How to use <strong>the</strong> Buckinghamshire SEND <strong>Support</strong> Plan;<br />

• Whole school change, looking at processes for identification, assessing, tracking and monitoring progress<br />

of pupils with SEND;<br />

• Quality First inclusive teaching, differentiation and intervention;<br />

• Drawing toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> views of pupils and parents and working with external services against SEND<br />

criteria;<br />

• Agree teacher/SENDCO/Family interventions and supported and <strong>the</strong>ir expected outcomes;<br />

• Implement <strong>the</strong> plan. <strong>The</strong> teacher is responsible for working with <strong>the</strong> pupil on a daily basis and assessing<br />

<strong>the</strong> impact of <strong>the</strong> plan;<br />

• Impact assessment with views of <strong>the</strong> parent/child to measure <strong>the</strong> impact of support. Revising <strong>the</strong> plan in<br />

light of outcomes;<br />

• Deciding whe<strong>the</strong>r SEND is still required and <strong>the</strong> next steps.<br />
