CLASSIC TOUR
Discovering the history and the wines of Barone Ricasoli
Our Classic tour is the best way to get to know the captivating history of a family and a fascinating
place that made the history of Chianti.
Barone Ricasoli is the fourth oldest family in the world, in possession of the same company
for 32 generations, and the oldest winery in Italy.
The imposing Brolio Castle, dating back to the 11th century, is the highlight and the symbol
of the company. The Ricasoli’s have owned it since 1141. Its present aspect is the result of
a long series of transformations. The last was carried out by Bettino Ricasoli, who wanted
to make the castle one of the best examples of Sienese Neo-Gothic art.
The four rooms of the Ricasoli Collection tell of the Ricasoli military history and the intense
political and agronomic life of Bettino Ricasoli. Chianti, called by Bettino the "perfect wine",
was actually born in the castle in 1872, after years of research and experiments.
This fascinating trip to discover the roots of Chianti Classico concludes in the state-of-theart
vinification area and the enormous wine cellar where our wines age. Our expert staff
will guide you through a tasting of a selection of the wines of Barone Ricasoli in a private
room. Today our wines are the "fruit" of passion, professionalism and innovation, like in
days gone by.
