Giving Fondren the Eyes - Through the <strong>Sallyport</strong><br />
Also on hand were former KPRC news director and series creator Ray<br />
Miller, series producer Gary James, and current KPRC vice president and<br />
general manager Steve Wasserman. Miller noted that <strong>The</strong> Eyes <strong>of</strong> Texas<br />
was the first television program “to be devoted entirely to Texana” and said<br />
that when it was launched, he wouldn’t have predicted its enduring appeal.<br />
“It’s been my observation in my long career <strong>of</strong> observing that most people<br />
fail to realize when they are doing something that might be significant,” he<br />
said. “So I did not give any thought at all at the beginning <strong>of</strong> this series<br />
beyond just putting it on the air. But after it had been on the air for a few<br />
years, I did begin to think that it ought to be saved.”<br />
Miller said it was his dream to have the series archived at <strong>Rice</strong>. “It was my<br />
first and only choice.”<br />
