CONFERENCE NOTES
THE CAMPUS
All facilities are located on the University of
Reading Whiteknights Campus. The
accommodation is located in Whiteknights Hall.
The Palmer Lecture Theatre, lunch facilities and
poster exhibition are close together and about
10 - 15 minutes walk from Whiteknights Hall.
Detailed maps will be sent out to delegates on
registration.
ACCOMMODATION
All campus accommodation comprises modern
en suite single rooms. The cost includes all
meals from lunch on Wednesday 6 April to
lunch on Saturday 9 April. Those wishing to
book adjoining (but not necessarily
interconnecting rooms) should indicate as such
on the registration form. Rooms may be booked
for any of the nights of the 5, 6, 7, 8 April – you
don’t have to book all four. You may book an
additional room for a partner not attending the
Conference.
MEALS
The registration cost covers all meals and
refreshments – all coffee/tea breaks, a reception
on 6 April and formal dinner on the 8 April. A
pay bar will be open on all three evenings until
midnight.
Should you wish to bring guests to either the
reception or formal dinner, please annotate the
registration form accordingly.
Please also indicate any special dietary
requirements on the registration form.
STUDENT GRANTS
Through the generosity of the Company of
Biologists, a limited number of small grants are
available to pay accommodation costs for PhD
students. Postgraduate students from outside
the UK will also be considered for assistance.

student status. Grants will be refunded, or
deducted from charges should time permit.
REDUCED REGISTRATION FEES
Reduced registration fees apply to any level of
membership of the Royal Institute of Navigation,
to presenters of papers and to session
chairmen.
VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT)
As providers of a service in the UK, we have to
charge VAT to all delegates, irrespective of their
country of origin (although some EU bodies may
account for the VAT in their homeland).
Registered individuals, businesses or
organizations are generally entitled to reclaim
much of the VAT paid, not only on the
Conference fee but also on associated travel
and accommodation costs.
