Community Connect 3 TM /RM Smart-Tools 3
Hardware Support Pack 24
Important It is essential that your network been updated with Hardware Support Pack
23 (HSP23) before installing Hardware Support Pack 24 (HSP24).
HSP24 is intended for use on Community Connect 3 networks only.
Introduction
This Release Note covers:
• An overview of HSP24.
• Important considerations before you install the Hardware Support Pack (HSP).
• Instructions on how to install the Hardware Support Pack on your Community
Connect 3 or RM Smart-Tools 3 servers.
• Files changed by HSP24.
Overview
Contents checklist
This Hardware Support Pack (HSP) includes:
• This Release Note.
• RM CC3 HSP24.
Ongoing developments into HSPs have resulted in a change to the installation process.
HSPs are now packaged as single MSI files. This is to reduce installation errors and to
allow easier remote installation. It is important that the user familiarises themselves with
the new installation process.
HSP24 updates the RM build area on the Community Connect 3 server to allow
rebuilds of the following new hardware:
• RM nBook UltraLight MKIII notebook.

• RM nBook 4200 notebook.
The following driver installs are updated as part of HSP24:
• RM nBook 6100 notebook LAN driver update to fix GPO installation issues.
• Updates to enable Wake-On-LAN for desktop systems fitted with the Yukon Marvel
Network card.
• Updates to the driver configuration for the ATIRX200 graphics card (fitted to RM
Ascend 2020 machines) to set the resolution to 800X600.
• Updates to the MS7061 and WBRTL915 audio drivers to prevent third-party systems
from installing them (this was causing a blue-screen during third party system
rebuilds).
• Updates to the P4M800p main-board driver files to remove Grep issues during the
DOS based hardware detection process.
• Updates to the build process to patch a file that may have not been correctly
patched
during the installation of the HSP22 update (only if HSP22 is installed at HSP10)
The affected file is
D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RMRebuild\XPBuild\I386\$OEM$\CMDLines.txt. When
rebuilding workstations on a Community Connect 3 network, the following message
may appear:
"Cannot import AUpOff.reg. Error opening file. There may be a disk or file system
error."
If you click OK to dismiss the message, the workstation continues to build with no
apparent issues.More information is available from TEC539731.
• Further updates to the station build process to assist support in diagnosing driver
issues (“Hotfix.bat” is updated to facilitate this)
Before Installing
Read through this section carefully, it provides important information.
• Complete backups of all the network servers that are used for workstation rebuilds.
• Check that you have installed the Community Connect 3 HSP23 update by following
the instructions detailed below "Checking the HSP version".
• Allow between 5 and 10 minutes per build server for the installation. You should not
attempt to build any workstations during this time.
Checking the HSP version
HSP24 requires HSP23 to be installed before hand.

To check which updates have been installed
1. If HSP23 has been installed it will be shown in the Add/Remove Programs applet
within Control Panel. From the Start menu, select (Settings on Windows 2000
systems then) Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.
2. HSP23 will also be shown in RM Version Reporter (From the Start menu, select
Programs, RM Version Reporter, RM Version Reporter).
Installing HSP 24
The HSP install that you have downloaded must be run on all workstation build servers.
Note Do not attempt to build any workstations while you perform the installation.
To install HSP24
1. Before proceeding, it is important that you have read through and performed all
actions in the section Before Installing starting on page 2.
2. Log on to the server as the Windows administrator user (not as an RM system
administrator; that is not as systemadmin).
3. Ensure no-one else is logged on to the server.
4. Close any programs.
5. Download the HSP24 self extracting file onto the server.
6. Double-click the self extracting "HSP24.exe" file. Click on Unzip to extract the files
in the Winzip Self-Extractor window. The default location where the files are
extrated to is:
D:\RMNetwork\Server\Tools\CC3 HSP24\
7. Once extracted, double-click the Hardware Support Pack 24.msi in this folder to
install the HSP.
8. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation.
9. Once the installation has finished, a message box is displayed informing you that
the installation has been successful and to recreate the workstation build disks.
10. If errors have occurred, a prompt will appear to indicate so. Please see the section
"Possible installation errors" at the bottom of this document or contact your support
provider with details of the errors.
11. If the install is successful, perform a backup of the server.
12. Repeat steps 1 to 11 on all servers that are used to build the supported
workstations.

13. If you have third party hardware and have manually amended the “Netlist.txt” file,
we have included a tool (D:\RMNetwork\Server\Tools\CC3 HSP24\Netlist\) that will
append your entries to the new netlist.txt file. Please read the readme file included in
the above location for more information on this tool. The original file is archived to
(\\\RMRebuild\Build Manager\RM\Archive\HSP24\netlist.txt.hsp24)
This is a temporary tool and the issues with “Netlist.txt” will be resolved in the next
HSP so that custom entries are automatically added.
Note Please recreate your workstation build disks as there have been changes to the
disk.
Important Bluetooth on the RM nBook UltraLight MKIII
The RM nBook UltraLight MkIII has an integrated Bluetooth device. This device has had
the driver and software installed but disabled in Device Manager. This is to provide the
highest level of security to the workstation for Community Connect 3 networks.
Administrators should only use Bluetooth networking with caution, as if it is not set up
correctly, it can lead to unauthorised access to the local hard drive which could lead to
the network security being compromised. Careful consideration should be made as to
which user groups have access to setting up Bluetooth connections.
If Bluetooth connections are not required then RM recommend leaving the Bluetooth
device on the notebook disabled.
Removing HSP24
Once HSP24 has been installed it can be removed by opening Add/Remove Programs
in Control Panel and selecting the entry for HSP24. By clicking on the entry, the HSP
can be removed by selecting the remove button. The HSP will not fully uninstall by relaunching
the Hardware Support Pack 24.msi file and so this is not a recommended
process for un-installing the HSP.
Please note that:
• New files added to the build area (listed in the section New workstation device files
below) are removed on uninstallation.
• Existing workstation device driver files or additional workstation build files which are
updated by HSP24 (listed in sections Updated workstation device driver files,
Additional Workstation Build files updated by HSP24 and DOS drivers added by
HSP24 below) will not be downgraded when this HSP is uninstalled.
• Files that are located in the \Archive\HSP24 folder are also not removed on
uninstall and subsequently will not be overwritten is the HSP is re-installed. If a
new HSP24 archive folder is required when re-installing, rename or delete the
\Archive\HSP24 folder before installation.

Possible Installation Errors
If you receive the error " Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer
package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact
your support personnel or package vendor."
Follow the steps below to resolve this issue
Ensure that the following files and folders exist in the live build area as they are
archived and re-placed.
The installation will fail if these files and folders are not present in the correct
location as this would prevent roll-back of the HSP and indicate errors in the live build
area.
"D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RMRebuild\" is the default build area path. If you have
changed the default build area path, please amend the instructions below as
appropriate with your configuration.
