RPS Conference 2010
September’s unmissable event at Imperial College, London
It is just a few weeks now until one of the
major pharmacy events of late summer
goes under the spotlight, when the
Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s exciting new
conference takes centre stage at Imperial
College in London.
Aptly entitled “Supporting patient and
professional decision-making”, the RPS
Conference 2010 takes place on Sunday
and Monday September 5 and 6, carefully
timed to reduce to a minimum the time busy
pharmacists need to take from their schedules.
With a specialised focus on front line
pharmacists and practice, the RPS Conference
2010 will showcase how the Society as the
new professional leadership body supports
its members in developing their professional,
practice and leadership skills.
It will also, crucially, provide an
important opportunity for pharmacists
to learn about the latest practice
developments from across Great
Britain, develop their skills and
network with their peers and leaders
in the profession.
The conference will also
explore how pharmacists
26 Pharmacy Professional | July/August 2010
can tackle issues professionally as their
clinical roles increase, and sets out to provide
an enlightening forum for in-depth and
multi-professional discussions that will bring
practical solutions to life in an informative
and entertaining way.
Not to be missed
The programme will be led by Conference
Chair, Professor Marjorie Weiss, Professor
of Pharmacy Practice & Medicine Use at the
University of Bath, together with professional
leads from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
and its membership, including the Society’s
Director of Professional Development and
Support, Dr Catherine Duggan (pictured).
“We developed the conference programme
with pharmacists’ professional and leadership
skills in mind,” says Marjorie. “The
sessions will help pharmacists get better
equipped to deal with the day-to-day
professional issues they face at work
and assist them in making the best
decisions in patients’ best interests,
using the best evidence available.
“This is a not-to-be-missed
event for pharmacists and
will showcase the latest practice research. It
will feature thought-provoking sessions to
empower your professional and leadership
skills through networking and workshops
which will be both inspiring and interactive.”
Marjorie’s view is reinforced by Catherine
Duggan. “This Conference will showcase
how the Society as the new professional
leadership body is supporting its members
to develop their professional, practice and
leadership skills,” she says.
“It will provide an important opportunity
for pharmacists to learn about the latest
practice developments from across Great
Britain, develop their skills and network with
peers and leaders in the profession.
“As Director of Professional Development
and Support at the Society, I see this
conference as an excellent way to network
with colleagues, take part in some professional
debates, listen and contribute to emerging
research agendas, gain an awareness of how
evidence can contribute to the case for service
provision and attend some workshops around
professional development,” she says.
“The Conference Theme is “Supporting
patient and professional decision making”
