RTPD Ice Hockey Rink 

The ice hockey rink requires at least 3 consecutive 

days of below 10 degrees to develop and then an 

additional 3 days to establish fair skating conditions.

Woodland Trails Sled Hill 

Located on the east side of Woodland Trails Park, north 

of Euclid Ave. on Wolf Rd. The sled hill is unsupervised 

& sledding is at the participants own risk. Specific rules 

& regulations are posted to be followed at all times for 

safety purposes. Children are to be accompanied by an 

adult & extreme caution is encouraged of all patrons 

during days of bitter cold.

THE RIVER TRAILS PARK DISTRICT HAS EARNED THE IAPD/IPRA 

DISTINGUISHED ACCREDITATION. 

The Illinois Association of Park Districts and Illinois Park and Recreation Association sponsor a Distinguished 

Accreditation Program for the park districts in Illinois. The goal of this Accreditation program is to improve the 

delivery of recreation services to the residents of Illinois through a voluntary comprehensive evaluation process. 

The desired result is to improve the quality of life for Illinois residents and to recognize the agencies which provide 

this quality service. Also through this process, you evaluate yourself and make sure that you are up to date 

with all legal and policy matters. The process also increases operational efficiency and effectiveness. 

The staff at River Trails has proven to be above the standards necessary to achieve this recognition. In Division 

3 (our area) a total of 440 points was needed to pass this evaluation. I am extremely excited to say that we 

achieved 475.78 points, which is a wonderful accomplishment. The 5 member evaluation team was very impressed 

with our staff, operations and facilities. Our mission is to serve our patrons by providing excellent recreation 

opportunities. With this recognition from our fellow professionals and commissioners, we have confirmed 

that we are going in the right direction to do just that. I want to thank and congratulate all staff and the board 

for all of the efforts that were made to make this happen. Please continue to enjoy our programs, parks and facilities. 

And Remember, the Benefits of Recreation are endless.

River Trails, Prospect Hts. & Mt. Prospect Park Districts are involved in an agreement to bring more recreational 

services to our residents. Although your property taxes will continue to support only the River Trails Park District, 

you will be entitled to certain additional benefits at the “partner” park districts…Prospect Hts. & Mt. Prospect. 

All the programs and facilities, except for the golf courses, offered by our partner districts are available to you at 

resident rates. Residents will still be given first priority when registering for their favorite programs within their 

home park district. 

To take advantage of this outstanding partnership, when registering for programs or purchasing a membership at 

our partner districts, present valid proof of your name and address with a valid driver's license or state ID.

In Claudia’s 4 years with the Park District, she has shown a great 

dedication to the children of our Trail Blazers preschool program. 

She always puts the children of our program first and has been a 

big reason the preschool program continues to be a huge success.

Providing Recreation Services to Individuals 

with Special Needs 

The River Trails Park District is a member of a cooperative agreement 

among 17 park districts which form the Northwest Special 

Recreation Association (NWSRA). NWSRA exists to provide 

outstanding opportunities through recreation for people with disabilities. 

The agency’s team of full-time Therapeutic Recreation 

professionals and trained part-time staff offers safe, fun and quality 

year-round opportunities to individuals with disabilities of all 

ages and ability levels. Participants benefit through increased self 

esteem, physical and social skills development and improved fitness 

and health while experiencing new challenges, making 

friends and having fun! Afterschool, evening and weekend activities 

feature cooperative sports and games, individual and team 

sports, arts and crafts, fitness, cooking, creative arts and drama. 

Camps, trips and special events are also available at various times 

throughout the year. 

Inclusion assistance is provided by NWSRA to those individuals 

who wish to participate in their home park district programs. 

When registering, the parent of an individual with a disability 

should inform the park district (and NWSRA, if desired) of any 

accommodation needed in order for the individual to successfully 

participate in the program. The park district staff will then contact 

NWSRA for assistance with the accommodation.

Tiny Tyke Trail Blazers ’12 -‘13 

Perfect for those that missed the 3 year old deadline of Sept 1 

but are ready for a longer class & to stay alone in a preschool 

setting. We’ll help your child get off to a great start. Children 

will begin the season with a 1 hour class then starting in November 

they'll stay for 1.5 hours each day. Activities include 

stories, free play, large motor, crafts & games. Structured & unstructured 

time will help your child develop independence, social 

& motor skills. Parents will be asked to provide a snack 

several times during the year. Child must be 3 yr by Dec 31. & 

able to be in class alone after the first week. Diapers/pull ups 

okay. This is a school year-long program.

A developmentally appropriate program. We look at the 'whole 

child' including intellectual, social, emotional, physical & creative 

growth. Children develop differently so the curriculum is 

carefully planned to include activities to help each child learn & 

grow in all areas. Activities are presented in individual & group, 

structured & unstructured settings. Our primary aim is for each 

child to develop a love of learning & a positive self image.

National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) is a clinical training that certifies 

you according to NYSCA standards. NYSCA training is required of all River Trails head 

coaches to assure their dedication & responsibility to youth sports. Certification can be

PAYS Training & Certification (Parents Assoc. for Youth Sports) 

Both parents/guardians of participants enrolled in any youth sports league must complete 

the PAYS program before the start of the program. Children whose 

parents/guardians have not completed PAYS will not be allowed to participate in any 

youth sport programs requiring PAYS certification at River Trails Park District. The 1- 

time clinic consists of viewing a video from NAYS (National Alliance of Youth 

Sports) & going through the PAYS handbook. Upon completion, individuals will sign

Come out for Saturday soccer! Learn the fundamentals while having fun & learning soccer skills in a non-competitive environment. 

Games are played in 4 vs 4 to 6 vs 6 formats with goalies & playing on a smaller field. Age groups may be combined if

OUR GOAL 

The River Trails Park District strives to provide our 

participants with safe, fun and economical recreational 

opportunities. Through a variety of programs, 

events, facilities and open spaces, individuals and 

families can enhance their lives through our offerings. 

The River Trails Park & Recreation Foundation was 

developed solely to assist the River Trails Park District 

through grants for scholarships for those facing 

financial hardship, specific projects, equipment, infrastructure, 

development and programming. 

We solicit funds through various methods to support 

these areas. We realize that economic times are tough, 

which makes it even more important to provide 

wholesome recreational opportunities. If you are able 

to contribute, you or your organization will be recognized 

and you will receive a letter stating your donation 

for tax purposes.

The River Trails Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high 

regard. The River Trails Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed 

to protect the participants' safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the listed programs/activities must recognize 

that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs. 

You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It 

is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician 

before undertaking any physical activity. 

WARNING OF RISK 

Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and 

proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. 

Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, 

dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises 

defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor 

recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the River Trails Park District to guarantee absolute safety. 

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK 

Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the listed programs/activities, you will be expressly assuming the risk and 

legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating 

in any and all activities connected with and associated with this program/activity (including transportation services/vehicle operation, when provided). 

I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in the listed programs/activities, and I voluntarily agree to assume 

the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further 

agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in this program/activity

3. WAIT LISTS are held for programs that fill. We will 

open additional classes IF POSSIBLE. If you pay by 

credit card & are placed on a waiting list, your account

4. NON-RESIDENT FEE: There is a non-resident charge 

of 20%, (not to exceed $20), per class per person, for 

programs. Partner residents receive resident rates.

Refunds

district must cancel a program, a full refund will be
