GROUP 1 ENTITLEMENT<br />
ODL - CAR, M/CYCLE<br />
Provided epilepsy, any sequelae<br />
from head injury and other causes of<br />
altered awareness have been<br />
excluded, no restriction on driving.<br />
<strong>DVLA</strong> need not be notified. Till 70<br />
licence retained.<br />
GROUP 2 ENTITLEMENT<br />
VOC – LGV/PCV<br />
A single confirmed episode is not a bar<br />
<strong>to</strong> driving; the licence may be retained.<br />
If two or more episodes occur, driving<br />
should cease and <strong>DVLA</strong> notified.<br />
Specialist assessment required <strong>to</strong><br />
exclude all other causes of altered<br />
awareness.<br />
COLLOID CYSTS:<br />
Asymp<strong>to</strong>m<strong>at</strong>ic and untre<strong>at</strong>ed<br />
No restriction.<br />
No restriction unless prescribed<br />
prophylactic medic<strong>at</strong>ion for seizures.<br />
Cranio<strong>to</strong>my and/or endoscopic<br />

• Resume driving when clinically<br />
recovered.<br />
• Drive following recovery.<br />

BENIGN SUPRATENTORIAL<br />
TUMOUR<br />
e.g. meningioma, etc.<br />
SURGICAL TREATMENT BY<br />

Generally, 1 year off driving<br />
required.<br />
If the tumour is a benign<br />
meningioma and there is no relevant<br />
his<strong>to</strong>ry of seizure(s), can be<br />
considered 6 months after surgery if<br />
remains seizure free.<br />
A 1, 2 or 3 year licence may be<br />
issued when re-licensed initially.<br />
Refusal or revoc<strong>at</strong>ion. In the absence of<br />
any seizures, re-licensing can be<br />
considered <strong>at</strong> least 5 years after surgery,<br />
with evidence of complete removal. If<br />
tumour is associ<strong>at</strong>ed with seizures, <strong>at</strong><br />
least 10 years free from seizures without<br />
anti-epileptic drugs following surgery is<br />
required, in addition the epilepsy<br />
regul<strong>at</strong>ions must be s<strong>at</strong>isfied. Specialist<br />
assessment may be required.<br />
Asymp<strong>to</strong>m<strong>at</strong>ic incidental<br />
meningioma, untre<strong>at</strong>ed<br />
Retain<br />
Refusal/revoc<strong>at</strong>ion until 2 scans 12<br />
months apart showing no growth. If<br />
growth, individual Panel assessment.<br />
Annual review licence.<br />
BENIGN INFRATENTORIAL<br />
TUMOURS (posterior fossa)<br />
SURGICAL TREATMENT<br />
Resume driving following recovery<br />
and retain Till 70 licence.<br />
As for Group 1 provided th<strong>at</strong> there is no<br />
debarring residual impairment likely <strong>to</strong><br />
affect safe driving.<br />
ACOUSTIC<br />
NEUROMA/SCHWANNOMA<br />
Need not notify <strong>DVLA</strong> unless<br />
accompanied by disabling giddiness.<br />
Need not notify <strong>DVLA</strong> unless<br />

and/or the condition is bil<strong>at</strong>eral.<br />
