MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL<br />

A Major Teaching Affiliate of Harvard Medical School<br />

<strong>The</strong> Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts<br />

General Hospital is seeking candidates <strong>for</strong> faculty positions at all<br />

academic levels. Special consideration will be given to those with<br />

an established track record in clinical or laboratory research and<br />

a commitment to excellence in clinical care and teaching.<br />

<strong>Academic</strong> appointment is at Harvard Medical School and is<br />

commensurate with scholarly achievements.<br />

MGH is co-sponsor of the 4-year BWH/MGH Harvard Affiliated<br />

Emergency Medicine Residency Program. <strong>The</strong> ED at MGH is a<br />

high volume, high acuity level 1 trauma and burn center <strong>for</strong> both<br />

adult and pediatric patients, and includes a 14-bed Observation<br />

Unit. <strong>The</strong> annual ED visit volume is ~91,000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> successful candidate will join a faculty of 37 academic<br />

emergency physicians in a department with active research and<br />

teaching programs, as well as fellowship programs in research,<br />

global health, medical simulation, ultrasonography, and<br />

wilderness medicine. Candidates must have completed an<br />

accredited residency program in EM and have at least 4 years of<br />

training/experience.<br />

Research Grants<br />

SCPC has two $10,000 grants <strong>for</strong> clinical research<br />

related to acute care of chest pain, heart failure and<br />

atrial fibrillation patients.<br />

• Areas of potential focus:<br />

• Diagnostic strategies and outcome measures<br />

• Potential solutions to challenges evaluating<br />

these patients<br />

• HF management in an observation setting<br />

• Patients presenting with atrial fibrillation<br />

• Research proposed must be completed within the<br />

one-year funding period<br />

EMS Fellowship Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> Fellowship is designed to give graduates of ACGME-recognized residencies in<br />

Emergency Medicine a broad introduction to all aspects of EMS Medical Direction<br />

including ground EMS (both fire-based and private), air medical transport, tactical<br />

medicine and disaster medicine. Depending on specific interests and long-term<br />

goals fellows may focus on any of these areas.<br />
