ENTERTAINMENT Dana Lenard Staff Writer On Feb. 20, 2013, Sony confirmed that the next generation of Play- Station consoles was on its way. Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will be released during the holiday season of 2013, which means that Play- Station fans have just a little over seven months to wait until the PS4 is released. As one can expect from any advancement in a gaming console, the PS4 is expected to have crystal-clear graphics, increased memory storage and plenty of new features to keep players excited. One of the first improvements is the graphics quality. The PS4 will contain a high-performance graphic chip that can produce higher quality images in a shorter amount of time, which will give many games crisp graphics. In addition, the PS4 has the possibility of adapting cloud gaming. The world’s leading cloud-based gaming company, Gaikai, will hopefully allow Sony to use cloud gaming on the PS4. This service will give people more innovative, interactive ways of playing games. The PS4 will also contain increased RAM (random access memory) storage, which will not only enable the production of higher quality games, but also increase the amount of memory that the PlayStation can hold. Another important change that was being considered was renaming the PS4. According to PS4-Blog.com, Sony considered changing the name from “Play- Station 4” to “Orbis,” a Latin word for orbit or circle. However, in keeping with the tradition of using the same PlayStation title for over 18 years, it is highly unlikely that Sony will follow through with the name change. One of the biggest changes from the PS3 to the PS4 is the controller. The new DualShock 4 controller will keep the same button layout and configuration but with a few new additions. The touch pad can recognize two fingers at a time, which increases the amount of input a player can submit at once. In addition, the controller will have an LED light bar on the front that can react to certain situations during game play. The controller’s biggest change was the addition of the ‘Share’ button, which allows players to share live game play with friends in real time. Overall, players can expect to see huge differences with the DualShock 4 controller. What does this mean for the future of gaming? At the rate technology is going, people are expecting to see more interactive and social gaming, so the PS4 will not disappoint. 20 MARCH 2013 ENTERTAINMENT Korn gets their heads on straight With possible return of guitarist Brian Wealch, band is back on track Dominic Marchica Staff Writer Music comes and goes, like the short lived success of band Neon Trees (remember them?) A band still makes music after almost 20 years is a true statement to their longevity. Pop songs and bands usually have a shelf life of a few months or a year at best. Be that as it may, popular metal band Korn stays away from that stereotype. After starting in the early 90s, Korn has produced ten studio albums and has won two Grammy awards for best music video and best metal performance. Korn began to seriously gain popularity after that, releasing one album per year. In the growing limelight and fame, Guitarist Brian “Head” Wealch became an alcoholic and a drug addict. He decided it would be in his best interest if he left to follow God. In 2002, after release of the “Untouchables” album, Brian announced his departure in front of a coliseum full of people. Fans reacted in worry, because Head was a big part of the band. Years passed and Korn went on to release albums like “See You on the Other Side “and “Korn III: Remember Who You Are.” Soon after the “Path Of Totality” tour, Korn began to announce their appearances at upcoming festivals like “Rock AM Ring” in Germany and “Download festival” in England. Korn then announced that their beloved guitarist, Head, was returning to play some of the upcoming festivals. This resulted in an overwhelming response from the fans, and Head decided to play more festivals with the old crew. Wealch never thought he would rejoin the band after so many years apart, but the members never had any hate towards each other. This escalated to rumors of head re-joining Korn for good, and it may be a possibility. Only time will tell. “ I think bringing [Head] back is a blast from the past, and no one could ever replace him and play as hard as he can on those six strings. Seeing him hop unexpectedly at Carolina festival blew my mind since I last saw him play with Korn seven years ago,” said freshman Gennaro Gammariello said. “I think it’s awesome. Since he quit in 2005 I think he had a while to figure things out and he did just that. He’s an excellent guitarist and I’m happy he’s back,” said sophomore Brianna Pulver. As you can see, the overwhelming optimism amongst fans for Brian is there. On a personal note from a Korn fan, I can say that this is a great honor to see head return to the stage. We, as fans, have nothing but love for Brian, and hope for a triumphant return coming this summer’s festivals. March madness: gaming style Starcraft, Ghost Warrior are two among many games released Brandon Recht Staff Writer Listen up, gamers! Spring break is right around the corner, and what do you think you’re going to spend your time doing? Gaming, of course! March has always been a major month for new releases, and 2013 is no exception with some Triple A titles on the way. On Mar. 12 everyone’s favorite RTS, “Starcraft 2,” is getting an expansion entitled “Heart of the Swarm.” This release marks the first time that PC developer behemoth, Blizzard, has touched the game, and it promises to include some new Unique units for all races as well as a new, “Darker middle Chapter of Campaign,” for all of you single player fans. The day also boasts a return to ancient Greece with the release of “God of War: Ascension.” Based on a return to Kratos’ desire for revenge on the gods and titans of Olympus, Ascension surely will deliver on players’ desires to rip apart their favorite greek gods and goddesses and the new titan bosses. A new installment in the “Sniper: Ghost Warrior” franchise, entitled, “Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2” (I think this one is self explanatory), and a DLC for “Battlefield 3” entitled “End Game” are being released as well. The other majorly awaited March releases come later in the month. The first, “Gears of War: Judgment,” releases on Mar. 19. This marks the fourth installment in the series, where players will travel back to the beginning of the series, and play through the campaign from the viewpoint of fan favorite, Damon Baird, as the war begins between COG forces and Locust. This time around, developer Epic Games (conspicuously lacking in their head designer Cliffy B), decided to focus more on the multiplayer aspect of the game with the story of the campaign rather than adding new modes, such as Horde Mode. The introduction of a new free-for-all multi-player option and multi-player class system are sure to shake things up. As I am sure most gamers are impatiently waiting for, March as marks the release of three year project “Bioshock Infinite” due to technical delays, infighting amongst Irrational Studios and general disagreements, the game is finally slated for release on Mar. 26. This marks the third game in the series and a departure from the city of all our nightmares, Rapture.
